Howdy..

Just had the strangest thing...3 pics submitted from one series. Two of the three had the same exact caption and keywords as one was just a cropped image. The cropped image was accepted but the other two images were rejected on the grounds of keyword spamming.

I'm not a wordsmith and don't get carried away with the keyword.. literal is what you might call me, but accepting one image and rejecting two is strange.

Or should I just get use to it and carry on?

Hey JC,

Did anybody ever tell you that the microstock industry was consistent, logical or fair?

For sure follow it up. I've experienced good responses when I've sent a dispassionate 'please explain' email. You certainly have an odd situation.

JC.... LOL and laughing with you not at you... been there, did that.. exact thing. I don't think there is a logical explanation for that.
I've taken a pic, crop and flip it, then post it and the original and have one or the other shot down for a techincal problem, noise/overfiltered/whatever. Same pic.. Explain that.
I've had a picture shot down for a tech reason, that I didn't agree with, post it the next day and it flew...
I suppose it just depends on who is driving the review monitor that day, what their mood is, what happened to them last night, how much they had to drink or not drink, the argument they had with the spouse that morning.... the kid's report card from school...... and sometimes, it's really based on a technical issue...
We're dealing with humans on the other end. Sometimes they have a bad day. We're all imperfect and prone to goof up once in awhile.... even us, the photogs ... LOL
One thing you learn fast in this business if you want to survive... take rejection with a grain of salt and push on. If one pic isn't good enough, go out and shoot a hundred more!! They're like nachos, you can always make more. LOL Move on to the next batch!! peace

Hey Lee & Tom,

Thanks for the follow-up and laughs! Stockxpert .. were the culprits. I wrote to them and asked the questions why the cropped image was acceptable yet the full image was considered spam. ( the crop was minor at best ) After reading the keywording notes by Sharply_Done, If anything.. I should be pulled up for NOT putting enough keywords in!!!!

Boy this is fun... don't worry...I don't take it personally. Been doing the photo game way to long to understand it.

I'll let you know how I go with the reply from SXpert.

I cannot respond to your specific images, but generally, we are increasing our efforts to crack down on keyword spamming.

We've created keywording guidelines for all contributors:

The reviewers are evaluating keywords based on this document.

As others have said, the reviewers are human and review literally thousands of images a day, so if you feel they have erred with your images, you should contact them (as you have done).

I still think this new policy will have an overall positive effect for everyone.

I can testify to Steve-oh's comment. When I first got on StockXpert, I got nailed for keyword spamming. I was surprised as I use the same KW's everywhere and in limited quantity. Specifically in this case, I had posted a pic of Half Dome in Yosemite NP. I was hit for the keyword "half dome" as spam. (?) When I emailed the support folks, the matter was immediately cleared up. I've never had a KW problem with StockXpert since. Send off an email, if nothing else, they will let you know exactly why they feel certain words are flagged. I've found StockXpert support to be cooperative and helpful.
