We wanted to let you know that as part of our continuing dedication to making your images easily accessible to the greatest possible number of potential customers, we have just launched a major update to our iPhone and iPad apps for both Getty Images(application will be available July 17, 2014) and iStock by Getty Images. You can download the new iStock by Getty Images apps at the link above.

As the press-release going out today notes:

According to data from comScore , mobile devices accounted for 55% of internet usage in the US in January, with apps accounting for 47% of that traffic.. With people increasingly embracing mobile access to execute work-related tasks, the iOS apps allow creative storytellers to pursue their ideas wherever they are. The apps enable users to search, curate and share millions of rich conceptual and editorial images available at iStock and Getty, and delve into the historic Getty Images photo archive.

These apps have been built with the busy creative and media professionals in mind; each of the app interfaces provides a beautiful, modern look and feel with robust usability.

While users cannot license images directly from the apps, weve added and improved features to make it easy for them to find and share images for projects wherever and whenever then want. Those features include:
Search: Users can easily search millions of creative, editorial and archival images.
Save: Tapping and holding allows users to add an image to their most recently created or updated lightbox.
Share: The apps allow for seamless sharing of lightboxes and single or multiple images with colleagues or clients. Users of the Getty Images app can access embed codes and share imagery in their blogs, when used for a non-commercial purpose.
Size: On iPad, the details of an image can be viewed with a simple pinch and zoom.

We are always working on making it as easy and appealing as possible for customers to find your images, and to keep Getty Images as their #1 source, and this is another big step in that effort.

The new apps are available on iPhone 5, iPad 3 and higher devices, as well as iOS7 compatible devices. If you havent already, please download or update our apps from the iOS App Store and check out how well they highlight your images and make it easy for you to find your images and build and share lightboxes.

Its a nice looking app, not as sophisticated as the Shutterstock or Fotolia apps, but certainly an improvement. Although I didnt see the option to sort files by price, only vetta and regular collection, including indies. You can also not click on the artists name to see the whole portfolio.

Many agencies now have apps for browsing the collection on their tablets.

But now that the app is out, maybe the IT team can go and fix the video uploading issues...and perhaps marketing can be bothered to discover new photos for the image of the week...

(which sounds like a made-up statistic to me. Even if real, the 'traffic' could just be for kewl sites, "Wonder what they've got this month?", and says nothing about buying habits.)
