Paypal is a great service, if you live in the US.

How do people who don't live in the US get their money into their pocket?

I am Canadian, living in Ecuador.  In order to get funds I have to transfer Paypal to my Canadian Bank, and then withdraw from an ATM here.  This involves many fees and lost money due to currency changes.

Is there somewhere online I can transfer to Western Union or some other service?

Thanks

Why did you not create a new paypal account from Ecuador and transfere your money directly to a bank in Ecuador?

Paypal does not work everywhere and can be veryveryvery expensive and complicated outside the US.  I do not like to deal with them at all. I know people who have trouble since years with that situation and the "pay by email" solutions.

Sadly, there are still Agencies (Shutterstock, Fotolia) which still do not offer Payoneer as a payout method.  I guess Contributors are just not worth it for them ... images coming in anyways, right?

Otherwise, on SS there is just Cheque left as a payout method.

Thanks for the tip about Payoneer,  I had no idea they existed.

Do the funds just stay "on the card" until withdrawal or is it easy to transfer to another bank account in other countries?

No need to transfer funds to bank account. Use Payoneer master card provided to withdraw money from ATM worldwide or spend them in the local shops around the globe.... easy and convenient for 2$ fee. I like them a lot!

Everyone I know uses PayPal outside USA and it's certainly not complicated, in fact is very simple and in 10 years of use I have yet to have a problem.

I've seen far more complaints about Payoneer that PayPal.
Here's just a small selection...

BoBoBolinski,
I have no problems with Payoneer at all. It's a reputable company.  You have to understand that Payoneer has different policies than PayPal. I never tried to use it for receiving funds from individuals, maybe something can go wrong there. I use it for receiveng my income from microstock agencies and it works perfectly. There is nothing wrong with Payoneer.

I've had problems with Paypal freezing my funds because they suddenly decided I should provide extra documents that didn't exist.  I had a major fight to get them to release the funds. But most people who use them don't get such problems. Payoneer hasn't caused me any trouble yet - but I realise that any of these payment systems could do something funny any time, maybe due to a new regulatory rule in some distant part of the world, so I don't keep too much money loaded on the card.

Bobo - in most of the world, Paypal doesn't work in its entirety, I still use it for routing payments to ebay (which it does seem to do worldwide) but receiving cash is another matter.

BT, I was in the same situation. I needed even a lawyer. I just cannot trust them anymore. I use payoneer now whenever it is possible and they are great.

OK, I accept that people have problems, I must say that as far as receiving payments in Europe it's fine, and if I do any custom work for clients worldwide I always specify payment via PayPal and don't have problems, and get money into my bank account virtually instantly.

I think it works in the US and EU, it's beyond that it gets patchy.

Checks for IS and SS, Paypal for the rest, and yes, PP fees are high.
