Hey everyone,

I ahve been using FileZilla to upload images but I am finding that it is not successfully connecting to a couple sites and I was wondering if anyone had other programs they are using instead of FileZilla?  FileZilla seems to work most of the time, but not always.

Thanks!!!!

I just use the Windows File Explorer, and found I no longer needed a dedicated FTP program.  Many people don't realize that Windows has FTP built-in...

Alas - I have a mac.  :-)

Sorry - I should have included that information from the beginning.  :-)

I'm on a Mac and I use Fetch. http://fetchsoftworks.com/  I've always been happy with it so I haven't explored other possibilities.

I've been using a product called FTP Voyager from a company called Rhino Soft for about 15 years. A lot of great features, especially in the paid version. It was recently bought by a company called SolarWinds who have made it free.

I use it for stock as it remembers all settings, folder locations and file filters, you can open many simultaneous windows, and I use it for other business as it has a scheduler that can automate ftp processes unattended.

I've been setting up Lightroom to do all the uploading. Very straightforward and it integrates swiftly with my workflow.

How does that work? I have templates for Smugmug and social sites, but not stock agencies.

Here's a tutorial.
http://www.presetsheaven.com/news/export-to-ftp-with-lightroom/

You basically set up an export preset to export directly to the agency FTP.

Cyberduck is fine for casual needs, never had a problem with it. If you plan to use FTPs a lot, then you might consider investing into Transmit. You can pretty much send your photos to all of your agencies with one click and with a little help from automator, even that can be automated.  :)

I have tried different ftp clients, but at last I use Transmit on Mac.

I've used Fetch for a lot of years with no problems. At work we use FileZilla, but I haven't run into any issues yet. Not saying you didnt, just wondering if something changed on the server's side and your issue isn't with FileZilla? Trying another program might confirm that one way or another.

Thank you everyone for all of your responses, I am really appreciative of how much everyone here is so willing to help out.

I was having trouble with 123RF, crestock, and GLStockImages with FileZilla.  An email to crestock suggested that I download another ftp program to test the connection since they were able to connect with FileZilla.  I downloaded CyberDuck to give it a whirl since it appeared to be the simple, and free.  It appeared to work just fine at all three sites I had been having trouble with, but it also doesn't appear to have any higher end functionality.

I need to look into exporting directly from Lightroom Fran - that would be an absolutely fantastic time saving method.  I find it hard to keep track of the photos that I have uploaded to which stock agency - and having an export function from within LR would dramatically simplify that.

If nothing else, using an ftp client like ftp voyager or transmit that can schedule uploads or combining with automater routines is a phenomenal idea.  I will have to spend some time looking into those individual programs.

Thanks again everyone.  This has been really helpful!

I use Transmit, it has a nice simple interface, Mac OSX friendly, and then distribute via Lightburner, no problems so far.

Just a note on Filezilla or any ftp and some sites. If you exceed the maximum number of connections for one IP address, the uploads will fail. Something to check is if you are overloading their server.

Putting five gallons of water through a 1" tube takes just as long, one gallon at a time or all five at once. The pipeline is the limiting factor, and often the upload speed or their servers are that limit. So opening too many connections, doesn't make things go faster, and it can cause failures.

Check the Max. connections and see if that's causing the problem.
