Anyone in NJ and California familiar with these bills? Any idea how they might affect working with the stock sites? I'm guessing stock companies' argument would be that they're technology companies and what we do is outside the scope of their regular work, and that they don't employ us but represent us. However, in NJ they're limiting freelancers to submitting 35 works of art or writing per year per business...

Interesting how many professions are independent contractors, and how these states want to claim more tax money from us. Sure they say it's for the state and from the company, but where does anyone think the extra expense of running a business come from? US.

I was surprised to see journalists and truck drivers included. This may have started as a way to target lyft, uber, door dash and the likes but it's going to kill or hit many other areas.

Just came to mind, iStock exclusive, makes you an employee?  :o

The A prong of the test evaluates whether the worker would be free from any direction or control from the company. Under the B part, the work has to fall outside a companys usual course of business, and under C, the worker has to be engaged in their own established and separate business.

The states got their hands into eBay and are claiming taxes from those sales. Typical politicians, finding ways to get their hands into our pockets and take money from our wallets.
