I just had a couple rejects on DT for "overabundant category"(s).  I can't remember ever getting such a reject from DT.   I also had a lighting reject last week that I don't really agree with but no big deal.   I don't lose much sleep over rejections, but I just checked FT where for sure they should have been refused on that criteria and those files were accepted.  That makes me think that there may have been a shift in reviewing at DT this month?  I don't have much of a sample to look at (FT definitely refused others that DT took).  Wondering if others with perhaps more uploads have noticed any new reviewing trends this month/year?

It also seems that now that StockXpert is a subs agency they accept anything as long as it isn't missing a release.   Many contributors downsize for SS, do you submit your downsized or your full sized ile to StockXpert now that you've evidence of the abundance of subs?

If I really, really wanted to drive myself nuts I'd set out to understand why a given image is rejected. As if there is some underlying logic involved. Nope. None. After 5 years in this business I can honestly say I have no idea why an image would be accepted at one site, rejected at others. Just too many variables. I'd rather set up another shoot than rack my brain figuring out the inconsistencies involved. So instead of wasting my time pondering I decided long ago that any reviewer who rejected an image of mine was drunk and probably having a better time than I was.

I have at least seen a large difference in the speed of the reviews. I don't have enough experience or data material to tell if there are more or fewer rejections now than before, but it would be logical to accept fewer images, considering they have reached 5 mill.

@louates: LOL!

I don't upload that much. My acceptance ratio has hovered around 40 to 50 percent the last few months. This month it is 28%, with nothing pending. Not going to upload til the end of the month I think. Really surprised this month with the rejections at DT. I upload to BigStock and 123rf as well and they've virtually accepted everything this month. I'm also curious to know how people with high volumes are doing at DT.

Sometimes reviewers get completely out of hand. Months ago FT was rejecting almost everything many excellent shooters were uploading. The input here was so overwhelmingly negative on FT I decided not to upload there for awhile. Maybe in a few more months I'll get around to uploading a few hundred new ones there that have been accepted elsewhere and selling well.
It doesn't bother me much to get the occasional rejection (lie #1). But I decided not to butt my head into the wall needlessly.

Same here. I asked about the "overabundant" rejection and was told (very politely) there were too many images on the subject with too few sales.

So I looked it up. There were 8 images on the subject with 43 sales.

Seems like DT is really getting tough.  ???

That's the same with me that I wrote about before. 100% accepted in January, this month they took two, which I can guess was a mistake that those two passed? When I wrote, the same basic answer. Too many like this and we don't see enough sales. One of mine had NO MATCHES in their database. I think that qualifies as not really too many. What they were refused for was style, not content. Here's the last one I got rejected when I search for the exact subject of the image.

Home > Search results: 0 images.
No results matching your keywords. Please adjust your string and try again.
You can also visit our Photo Request Forum to place a request for images that would meet your exact needs.

It's their right to change policy any way they want. Someone at DT looked as saw too many files, not enough sales for the space they take up, so they are optimizing.

It would be nice if when I submitted the batch in Feb. after having all the previous shots accepted, someone would have written a note and said, We Aren't Taking These Anymore, delete your 44 pending submissions.  >:(  Instead I just drove a nail into my acceptance percentage.

Maybe I should be happy that I got the 40-something through in January. I'll watch them and see if they are selling, or just a waste of their space.

I know it's dumb for me to make this point, but the classic line is true. Same photos that they rejected have sold on SS, IS, FT, StockXpert, and SV so far this month.

Yeah, my rejections are up again at DT too - and I have seen the overabundance a couple of times.  Most places your acceptance percentage is not so important but DT factors it into their search algorythm so I finally get to 60% with great care in uploading over the last few months and they blow me out of the water with a 33% last month!  Oh Well,  I think reviewers take a quick look at an image and decide - if they like it they push it on through and if they don't they just look for a reason to reject it.

No one has an opinion on this question?  I'm just really peeved at the moment to see yet another XL 30 cent JI sale.  To rub salt in the wound JI doesn't even give artists a credit line.  This seems to indicate exactly how they feel about us.

I only started at StockXpert a few month ago, so my experience is a little limited.
But in these few months I have received some XL downloads for 5$ each (which is more than I can get elsewhere for my 8.2 MP files), so it does make sense to upload full size for me.
Although the majority of sales is subs, there are the occasional PPDs - and today someone seemed to like my portfolio and downloaded 8 medium files for 1,50 each.
All in all StockXpert does look pretty good for me.

And I have to add: As I started at SS around the same time, I'm still getting 0,25$ per download there, so I can't complain about the 0,30$ subs at StockXpert...

Yes, 25-38 cents from SS is painful too, but most of us old-timers send only 4-6mp to SS for that reason.   For me it is the occasional XL sale from StockXpert that keeps me sending larger files, but now those sales are very rare.  Is it worth it?

Yes no doubt about StockXpert became a subs place. The difference between SS and StockXpert is at Shutterstock I started there by knowing they was a subs agency. SS also have the On Demand prices who can compete with subs. What credits can't do at StockXpert. I can eventually get higher comissions at SS while I'm stuck at 0.30 with StockXpert. I don't sell extended licence for 0.30 with Shutterstock

I don't even upload to StockXpert anymore. I have never downsized at Shutterstock. Maybe should I... I saw one recent image getting downloaded often at IS and SS at the same time. I wonder if they look at IS for the exclusive images there and decide to download the non-exclusive at SS ? I already changed my photographer name once at SS but I saw no change in my IS sales. SS sales was not good that month. Then I'm lost LOL
