Title: Storyblocks - earnings different this past week?
Post by: stockmarketer on August 21, 2022, 08:57
Anyone still contributing to Storyblocks?

For those who are, did you see a big change in your estimated August earnings around Aug 16?

Had a big increase a few days ago. About 50% more.

I saw a huge drop of well over 50%. Maybe a search change? But when I do searches today, my files still seem to show up in about the same positions. Not making sense to me.

The storyblocks monthly subscription 'Unlimited' has become over half cheaper. From €65 to €30.

It's still $65 a month... it's only $30 a month if you pay for the full year upfront, which hasn't changed.

Ok. I was mistaken.

Does it seem like there was a search algorithm change? I was having a pretty great year on Storyblocks until last Wed or Thurs, when my earnings suddenly had a massive drop. Sometimes these hiccups happen at Storyblocks, then get corrected the next day, but this one has been going 5 days or so. Anyone else see something like this last week?

I have 2 questions.
1. How to get on Storyblocks? I applied, but they don’t accept me yet, they write that I shoot few models. But is it really necessary to shoot the models.
2. Income from Storyblocks is what % of the total income from all stocks and from elements.envato?

I also applied to SB this year. I was rejected with the reason:
"... but are currently prioritizing content that best meets the needs of our customers."

SB also wrote : "... you are welcome to apply again in the future."
But I don't think I will apply again.

I've noticed the big change in earnings a couple of times before, thankfully all in my favour, but everytime the amount starts gradually reducing from the following days and I usually end up not making that much more than I would have done if there wasn't the massive jump. Like last time I had a 50% increase overnight, but it was about 10% up by the end of the month.

As for getting accepted, not really sure... I was automatically moved over to the partner program when they got rid of the marketplace.

Percentage of total income... about 20% for me, which is about two thirds of my Elements earnings. Both of them make up the same as my earnings from SS, Adobe, iStock and Pond5, Motion Array, Blackbox and VideoHive combined.

They didn’t accept me, they selected the video for subscription, but in the end they didn’t accept it.
Blackbox
What is BlackBox? Is it a stock or a platform that sells your video everywhere on its own behalf?

_______
Tell the e-mail of the storyblock site employees so that you can contact them. General e-mail does not suit me, I get answers from some person who is not even part of the review team.

It is not right. In fact, this stock gives a very good income.

Have you tried to get on artgrid.io?

I applied a couple of years ago, but they never got back to me. Might try again, nothing to lose... thanks for reminding me!

Yeah, BlackBox is just a distribution platform. You upload to them and they distribute to Shutterstock, Adobe, Envato, Pond5 and Vimeo Stock for a 15% cut. There's positives and negatives to it, which are going to vary depending on your circumstances and what you're looking to achieve, so they're right for some people and not for others. I'm not the biggest fan of theirs to be honest, but I have and do upload content there.

BlackBox ,Vimeo Stock
Vimeo is no longer accepting videos for over a year. And you yourself do not want to upload to stocks? I'm loading it myself, without any BlackBox there. It is unlikely that money will be added from downloading to BlackBox.
Well, there is also Stocksubmitter.

SpaceStockFootage, Be a human, give some addresses of people on storyblocks. I will not say that you gave it :). I need to beat them up so that they pay attention to my video.

Why on Earth would I have anybody's' addresses from Storyblocks? I assume you mean email addresses, but even then... just like every other stock site, it's not like the staff and the contributors are some big happy gang that go on outings and have meetups and poker at the weekend. I just upload my stuff and hope for some money every month like everyone else... I have no contact with them otherwise.

Do you know the email of the support service there? There is someone who writes something to you, informs you about something. As a contributor, you can see these email. Or maybe someone wrote something to you, and you have the email of this person. Any email will do.

SpaceStockFootage, I also wanted to ask, a search for your nickname brings up an animated video with space. Video sources from space, do you take from the NASA website? or from where? Is this allowed for stocks?

Yep, quite a few of my videos contain planetary textures and Earth images from NASA, the images are public domain and allowed by all the stock agencies... as long as you don't include the NASA logo or any people.

What sites do you get images from? Do you only work with photos or do you also download videos?

Usually only use footage of Earth from Orbit as seen from the ISS, otherwise the majority of them are still images, and the majority of the still images are planet texturea. Usually from their multimedia page.

I can take any photo from NASA sites, add movement due to the scale and format, change the perspective, get a video from the photo, and it accepts stocks and is it not forbidden?

It's not 'forbidden' (excluding logo and people content)... whether it gets accepted by the agencies is up to them, but I've never had any issues.

Banned for what?
For using as a basis not your own photo from space. Or insufficient change in this photo.

Did you miss the part where I said that all of the images are public domain and all of the stock agencies are fine with it?
Title: Re: Storyblocks - earnings different this past week?

I recommend not to upload public domain content to the agencies.

"Prohibited activities:
Submitting public-domain content"

AS has deleted my account because of this.
See my thread in the AS forum.
I used parts of puplic domain images and created videos from them. Only in 5% to 10% of my uploaded media.

There are, however, exceptions to this policy.

Acceptable uses of certain public domain content:

Stock footage created by government entities, like NASA and the National Park Service, automatically becomes public domain.

Public domain footage generally can be used freely with no restrictions, but it’s important to make sure the footage is in fact not copyrighted.

Those were from a quick Google search, will have to dig a bit deeper for full details and Adobe and Pond5 etc, but they have tens of thousands (probably hundreds of thousands of images and videos containing NASA content (i.e anything that contains the Earth which isn't clearly an illustration), so I'd be super surprised if they're completely unaware of the situation, are going to be shocked by such a revelation, and will proceed to delete everything! Bottom line is that NASA are absolutely 100% fine with it, so it's then up to the stock sites. I've never been told, or read that it's an issue and seeing they'll lose millions a year if they stop accepting NASA content, then I'm guessing it's fine.
