Hello,

Maybe someone from EU country can explain how work VAT if I create illustrations and sale on lot of marketplaces.

How do I charge VAT on Shutterstock and does it charge buyers? Or does VAT not apply to Shutterstok, Adobe stock since it is located in the USA? But on the map we see that there are also sales in Europe or does it not matter and the main thing is where the companys office itself is located and if it is in the USA then VAT is not charged? How do you do it, how does it work?

It would be great if someone from Romania shared their experience, but I think that the entire European Union has the same rules in this regard

Thank you.

I think there may still be differences between different EU countries. Being located in Germany VAT is 0% on income from US agencies.

Shutterstock charges the customer the applicable rate per country, and then pays it over to each tax authority accordingly. It is their responsibility, as they are providing the taxable service to the customer, so you dont need to worry about it.

The common rule is that if a company is located outside of Europe - like ss, adobe, etc. - no VAT is applicable if you live in Europe.

For tax purposes you declare the amounts payed by the agencies as net income. Keep an exact record of what is payed to you, no matter if you are a business or private person.

If an agency resides in Europe, then VAT is applied, but the ones I work for always give me a VAT included specification.
