Reading article with a picture using google image I was able to find this picture free to download at blog 400px if you put credit on your blog

the picture is the following: http://www.freedigitalphotos.net/images/Friends_g364-Teenager_Girls_taking_photo_p103336.html (credit ambro)

and also on 123rf where of course you paid for the blog size:

I am missing something or 123rf made a deal with freedigitalphotos.net or the photographer uploaded one this site as well? both sites have about the same number of pictures (about 2800) from ambro
what do you think?

Which I know you already pointed out, but it's the specific terms as published on their site.

How come I went there, followed your link, and I had a $5 DL in my cart? That was strange?

I notice a lot of ads on the free site. I wonder how much making money they are making of off advertising rather than selling images (since they are giving a lot of those away for free)? Perhaps the images are mostly there to drive traffic to the site for the advertisers. “Free” tends to attract freeloaders, not serious buyers. Just a thought. I wouldn’t ~~sell~~ give away my images there.

Does anyone know if they actually are connected to 123?

The reason it seems most likely this freebie site is connected to 123rf is that their free program is only for small sizes

If you look at the price charged for the original resolution, it's 4 credits at 123rf and $25 at this parasite site. Massive ripoff and I doubt any of the extra finds its way back to the artist...

However, if you look at 123rf's free program I can't find this veggie image in it

So perhaps it once was and this other site hasn't updated? I downloaded the free size just to see if there was any info on origin which there wasn't and the ID number doesn't match that of any of the agency images ID-100167596

Puzzled, but I can't see anything good in this.

There's no connection to 123rf at all (that I can find). If you look at the contributor guidelines it's just a regular site (based in London) that contributors upload to once approved (you have to submit three sample images). The up side is that you can set your own rates and get 70% commission on sales. The down side (for some, including me) is that the small size images are available for free.
Contributors there presumably figure that enough buyers will trade up to the larger (paid) sizes to outweigh the free small ones. Much like donating images to the free sections of micro sites in the hope that buyers follow through to your paid portfolio. Regards, David.
