As you may know I am a contributor to Clipartof.com as are other members on this forum.

This site is pro-artist (The others that offer 25 a download are just a ripoff in my opinion) so I wish to assist them.

I need to help promote them. They are a low budget. hence the Google ads on the site. (I'd rather them have those than take a higher percentage of my sales)

They don't have an affiliation program...yet and they don't promote with Google ads. (Again these options would cut into artists percentages.)

Any Ideas??? How can we promote this site?

Cheers Dennis

dude, you really need to know what you are talking about before you write something like that in a mircostock forum!! first that .25 site you are talking about does .25 to $28. Do you have any idea how many downloads one person can get each day on there. Alot 100+ easy and some people make a 1000 downloads each day. not for .25 but for much much more!! you need a little more respect for this trade. If you want to catch flies use honey not this stuff. I'm on clipartof and you need to stop pulling it by attacking mircostock.

I said it was "my opinion"..... Your opinion is your opinion.

I'm not ranting about the negatives or positives about microstock sites here am I?

If you don't want to reply to the question in the thread I asked instead of crying for your mate that's your option I guess.

I hope you and your emailing friends would start read the actual threads instead of just wanting to attack me.

You're a member of Clipartof....you'd think you'd want to help bring in traffic to sell your stuff rather than asking me to stop. ???

you really have no clue  :D well goodluck!!  ;D

A good rule of thumb is to have holiday images up at least 8 weeks before to let designers and scrapers time to plan and do projects for those holidays!  ;D

Yes, I did them on the weekend. I'd let Jamie know in advace they where coming. Being similar helped with the upload time.

I guess that's why I heard they can't take any more contributors right now, due to an enormous backlog.  ;D

I know there is a group on this forum that are .... annoyed that I opened the door for other artists to Clipartof here. I've explained my reasons elsewhere and I'm not going over it again.

(if you do want to say anything negative to me please email me and don't take it up on this thread)

I know there are also artists here that are grateful I did.

I'm now asking both groups to help me promote the site to get more visitors.
The more visitors the more sales for all.

Please do what you do well and be creative with ideas on how we can do this.

I'm thinking if it's all worth .......sofar no sales for me, new uploads are still pending,I see a lot of new artists with a empty portfolio......
I know it's hard work for Jamie and crew I was glad that they accept me in to the agency but now it makes me wonder if it was the best step to make ......

@ Dennis it looks if your sales was dropping because so many new artists steel your DL......LOL

I agree that what started out as a seemingly well-intentioned effort to spread the word to artists about this site has turned into somewhat of a crusade that in all honesty is turning people off of the site, rather than the opposite. Someone has crowned himself company spokesperson, and then begins attacking other members of this forum? How does that reflect on the site you are promoting?

Perhaps it never occurred to you that there are people here who actually do purchase images?

ETA: For late arrivals, the previously posted snarky comments by the OP have been removed, so this appears to make no sense.

So true. I don't think Dennis realises how much damage he's doing to clipartof's reputation.  :-\ ???

Exactly the same boat for me. Jamie has been really great, and it's not fair to judge the site until my entire portfolio is online, but I've got to admit I'm a little disappointed with zero sales.

So glad I started this, I appreciate all the great positive advice! It gives me such a warm feeling to be appreciated.

See how you feel in a few months. 8) Once Google archived my images I started getting sales. - a week or so.

P.S You would wonder if the owners of the site where upset, why would I continue?
If you want me to stop trying to promote the site email the owners and inform them.

If anything it's the negative posts that are doing the damage if any.

I'll keep watching the post to see if hopefully someone with good feedback comes.

For the rest I'm just ignoring.

In my opinion Dennis is eager to promote the site because now he have a lot of Artist Referrals but he also have a lot more of competition. Dennis if i wrong im sorry, but no one gives without received! You think that you can make some extra $ by referring some artists but that have a price, more competition to you!

I dont want to make a personal  attack to Dennis, and i understand the argument of make extra with referral program, but please be honest about it!

All the best for you.

That's right. No one gives without receiving.

::) I'll go through it one last time. Without Jamie's help I could not be on her site - (or any).
I have a chronic illness.

She went out of her way to help me and all I wanted to do was to help her in return. She said she needed artists, so I got them.

Yes I got referrals, that's the way the site is set up.
People don't need to give a referral if they don't want to.

I have seen no one that dose the same style as me on the site and so I have no competition from the new artists.

The truth and end of subject.

Dont fool your self, you cant find no one with your style but that dont mean that you dont heave competition!
Imagine someone that needs a illustration of a Dog for a mascot... that person heave a idea of buy a dog with your style, then she/her goes to clipart or some other site and type dog in the search and appears all the illustrations of dogs (and dont forget that in her mind they are looking for your type of illustration) but in the process of search the site they find some other dog with a different style but they like it more!!
You as just lost $$$.
This happen to me sometimes as a buyer, sometimes i need some vectors and in my mind i imagine something and when i start search i find something totally different. At the end competition is competition and you have competition!

I don't know how or what I can say or do to get through to thick headed. narrow minded people.

The thread is about finding buyers for all the contributors
I can't believe most of those repling to this tread don't think that is good for all???

Jamie could setup a referral program for buyers with an affilliate service like Commission Junction: http://www.cj.com.

If I see that actual sales are coming in I will promote the site via my own website, perhaps replacing links to Shutter and Fotolia with a link to ClipartOf. But I have first to see how things develop.

They need to find out about the 30% Tax details. I've recommended this idea as well.
but they can't afford to pay the tax for their contributors and do an affiliation program as well.

Thanks for positive feed back  Maul

The 30% tax is payable only if a contributor resides in a country without a double taxation treaty with the US. For all others - probably the majority of contributors - paying this tax can be avoided.

ClipartOf and the constributors - or at least those of them who understand the value of marketing - could form a link referral ring, which increases exposure and traffic for all participating sites without costing anything. Since e.g. my graphics are mostly very different from the existing stuff at ClipartOf I can probably attract a totally new and different customer croud. This might be true for some of the other new contributors as well.

Maui, could you please email Jamie and explain about the tax please?

The ring idea is great. Do you know how to set it up?

I'm not sure how many others would be interested but I am. I'm not sure exactly how to get all the contacts.

I know some would not not give there true inforation as they like to hide behind their alias'

I am waiting for Shutter to clarify things, then we can tell Jamie. Up to now a few of the details are a bit obscure.

ClipartOf puts up links to the contributor's websites, and we place links to Clipartof on our sites.
Since ClipartOf has a large traffic, this will get us more exposure with the search engines = more traffic for us. The additional visitors will occasionally follow the link to clipartof, which gives them more exposure as well.

So we would just tell Jamie the link to our website, and we would place reciprocal links on our sites.

Maui,
You are not talking about a true ring, right? Just a reciprocal link agreement?

In my mind, a true web ring has a rotating set of banner tile ads that appear in rotation on all participating sites. For instance, on my site it might show clipartof, or it might show one of my fellow contributors. On clipartof, it would show one contributor link at a time, in rotation.

What you are describing sounds like each of the contributors would have on their sites a single banner tile ad linking to clipartof. Then would clipartof have a page (?) with multiple similar links to each of these contributors? Or text only links?

I think you're idea has great potential. I'm trying to envision how it will work as more artists are added. I know the spots are limited, but I don't know what that cap number actually is. Also, not all artists maintain their own web sites, or will want to participate, so maybe it's not so much of an issue.

A little suggestion:
Maybe the site could co-operate/partner with another site that doesn't sell illustrations....like Photocase
Or co-operate/partner with site that sells only illustrations or vectors....

As a contributor I'm giving an agency a considerable percentage of every sale I have - as for Clipartof, half of what the image is sold for. Now why would it be MY job to promote the site? That is what I am paying the agency for: Selling my pictures to buyers they find to me.

I would more likely want to build up my own site with my own images and promoting that site to have a 100% commission.

Why would I do that?

I wouldn't know how to promote my site and get customers. I just said I am paying the agency to find me customers for my images. Read: I am willing to pay the agency 50-80% of an image sale if they have customers for my images. I don't know about you, but I am not paying 50% of image sales only for storage. As a contributor, it is not my nor yours job to promote the agency.

I am often thinking about direct marketing. What is the most efficient way to find and to contact potential customers? I think given the price range of our illustrations on clipartof, the most likely buyers would be graphics designers. Is there an inexpensive way to reach them directly?

Strange that Photocase ranking is low.....
I have only a few images on line 5 or 6 and the sales are better than most higher ranking agencies were I have over 500 images on line....

Less members?

I would more likely want to build up my own site with my own images and promoting that site to have a 100% commission.

Go for it....please. Clipartof is not like the other sites you contribute to. Nobody asked anything from you other than positive advice.

Go for it.
