Hi all,

I use CorelDraw 12 to create vectors.  Because vector sites require EPS format, I converted CDR file to EPS.  But I am devastated with the results: the gradients appear as bands and the lines look jagged and blurry.  The file size is about 10 MB.

Has anyone faced these problems?  Please help.

I had very poor results when converting Canvas 6 files to EPS too.  I don't remember about jagged lines, but colors were totally altered.

So I got AI...

I've not exported EPS files from it, but I'd suggest having a play with Xara Xtreme and seeing how you get on.

It's far more versatile than Corel DRAW in my opinion (less processor hungry too), and I use it for pretty much all of my website graphics these days. You can try it out free and fully functional for 30 days too.

I know Xara 3D, which I used for 3D texts. I'm impressed with Xtreme features for photo edition (given its price).  They don't give much info about vector handling and there are some things that sites, especially IS I believem, are very picky about.  I would be interested in knowing the results if someone tests it, especially if they have more intuitive controls, as I find AI very tough to learn on my own.

Yes I'd be interested to know too. I haven't really bothered with vectors for microstock personally myself as it would be new territory and after reading IS's requirements it kind of scared me off. Obviously the software of choice would be Adobe Illustrator, but at a price.

For $79, Xara is very good value, and unless you produce a lot of artwork for print you don't really need to bother with the pro version. The latest release has elements of X3D built in. I'm a member of the Talk Graphics.com forum (http://www.talkgraphics.com/) which is run by Xara. Plenty of Illustrators on there who could probably answer a few questions for you. There are plenty of video tutorials over there too.

UPDATE: Er.. it looks like Xara has it's problems with it's export capabilities in the EPS/AI area... http://www.talkgraphics.com/showthread.php?t=33424&highlight=eps

All of my vectors are created in Corel 12.
The trick is an additional step: save your vectors as Adobe Illustrator 7. After this you need an Adobe Illustrator to open the .ai and save as .eps. It's your problem how do you solve this, but an eps it's fine only when it's saved from Illustrator. Also focus on transparencies, some of gradient fill types, they are not compatible with the eps/ai 8.
Eps files tend to be bigger when some effects cannot be represented in native v8 format so these effects are simply rasterized, total preserve of the appearance but total usefulness of vector format.

Thank you all folks.  Sorry for the delay in replying.  I am trying out your suggestions, and hope to resolve the EPS problem.  Thanks again.
