ist of all thanx! i've been looking for this...critique later after i try it out.

Nice job on Monaco - Monte Carlo. Having lived there for a few years I know the days when Matisse enjoyed the beautiful air of Southern France are long gone.  Thanks for bringing back those days with your tutorial.

Could also just select the sky as the landscape was almost already isolated on white. The gardient is a nice idea that I never used for sky with trees area.

I find when I just do a sky selection without the gradient it looks really fake.  It is really hard to get the entire horizon selected well, especially when it starts fading to white in the distant background.  A mountain fading to white then a strong blue sky don't match up well.

Just a quick tip (you might already know it): if you hold Alt while clicking on layer mask it will make a black layer mask. A bit faster this way

Bless you for this, Tyler.  I have an image I've been trying to replace the sky in for over a year, but could never find a tutorial that resolved the problem I was having, even though I spent a small fortune on Photoshop books and many hours searching the Internet, trying to find the answer.  I could never quite let go of the image in question, as I kept hoping the day would come when the solution finally came.  Today's the day
