Hey guys!

I am back after a break for finishing my PhD.....

so guess what I applied for iStock.
guess what, i got rejected!  ;D (who'd have ever thought that.....)
i can try again in a few days.

so I just wanted to ask what you think about the subject matters I sent.
i include my flickr links here (of course i submitted without the black frames and the watermark). i am more interested in the subject matter than the technical regards.
thanks!

right....... well i'd say the headphones one would be ok for talking about happiness and music in an ad. but maybe the cropping is bad.
the indian one because they're crazy about cultural diversity. i can't find many pics of native americans on stock sites. ok then for the commercial use you are kinda right.
temple: antique objects?

hm maybe you are right, although for the headphones one i think it'd be quite alright.

Hi,
Did you read the rejection email?  Were All the images rejected?  Did it say why?

I got my rejection email yesterday too.  2 out of 3 were accepted.  The one rejection was my best seller at SS; artifacts!   ::)

no there is no comment on the pictures, just rejection, and that i am welcome to repost in a few days. it would help though. :D
meaning i probably better upload 3 fresh ones....
i'll come up with some suggestions for you guys to comment on.

The girl picture if fine, but without cropping. It's a bit too much for Istock application.
The Indian is good subject, but it is too static, we can't see him dancing. Be aware you won't be allowed to upload it for you portfolio without model release.
The third one just looks like a snapshot, sorry.
It is good that your first three pictures are of different subject matter, they like that.

cathyslife

I think the first one is very stockworthy. If you have it uncropped fine. I would submit without filtering (looks like maybe you put a vignette on it?). The second one is good, too, but as mentioned, you should have a model release. The third is a good shot, but have seen tons of them so you would be chancing a rejection with that one. I agree, variety is good. They seem to like people shots. Just my two cents.

The indian image has a dark frame, try to avoid it.

What the others said plus the Acropolis is copyright protected.

Stop with the cropping already.  I looked at the first three.  As others noted the first one would have been OK but for the cropping.  Glanced at a few in the second batch and every one was cropped.  You're shooting for designers.  They like to do their own cropping.

I think you could use more light on the hair.

The last one IS fun but there is a logo on the can that would have to be taken out.

eyeCatchLight

yeah.......i am an old cropper.......... maybe i am more a photographer than a stocker.......

hairlight: yeah i wish, but i only have one flash right now. but i tried with my desk lamp, it looked nice.

ok... what about these (of course without the black frame):

The lizard does nothing for me.  No popping color, no interesting "expression."  It just doesn't seem to have sales potential, except for the few sales over several years from the websites/blogs who need a decent shot of a specific species.

I like the first shot with the guitar/girl.  Great color/background, it's a fun shot.  Didn't examine it at 100% to look for technical issues but I think it's a cool shot which would get attention.  Give us more like that!

So for an iStock application would it be more suitable to have a cake isolated or with decoration?
