Hi!

I am fairly new to stock Illustrations, been producing here and there over the course of 2 years and have around 300 illustrations online. One thing I never tackled with, or understand much, is Editorial.

Any Illustrator here do some Editorial images? How does it work actually. Do you pick one of your image as Editorial, and when you do so you need to stay "exclusive" with editorial with that images and only submit to 1 site, or you can still submit to multiples Stock website and keep some RF? What exactly is Editorial Illustration or Images? And the last... Is it worth it to sell as Editorial?

Thanks for your insight!

Those are not easy to answer questions, or at lest require some lengthy explanation.

How about posting a couple of your illustrations so we can better understand your questions.

from SS's FAQ:

"How is editorial stock different from commercial stock?

Commercial stock images are used in advertisements, promotions, and anything that would endorse a product or service. Editorial stock depicts some newsworthy subject. Unlike commercial images, editorial images may contain recognizable people without model releases, and trademarked designs such as logos, vehicles and buildings.

...

Are editorial stock photos downloaded less frequently?

Usually. Many of our customers are commercial image buyers who are unlikely to download editorial images. Editorial images may be used by newspapers, magazines, TV, and other news organizations that arenĂ¢€™t endorsing a product or service."

I hope it helps understand what Editorial Images are.

Personally, I've never heard of editorial illustrations in my five years on the micros.  Usually "editorial" refers only to photojournalism -- all that non-model released, non-property released stuff.

I think illustrations can be editorial if they use for instance company logos. Like Coca Cola vs Pepsi.

Ah ok I get it, thank for the information I really appreciate. Basically Editorial would be to work without model and property releases, but for very limited subjects. So for Illustrations it doesn't really apply.

Thanks for the info really appreciate.
