Any updates on this?  Are they worth uploading to?

Yes, worth it. I have arround 70% of my Profile there and 55 sales last month. Not much, but steady and growing.

That is a very nice achievement! Please post your portfolio link, would love to see your work and could not find you under the pseudo you use here in the site's advanced search.

averaging just under 1% of monthly earnings (personally this is about where I say it is worthwhile) and growing. Earning more than Panther or Scanstock, but less than FP.

They have a reasonable tiered system based on downloads with subs & sms = 1/3 of a sale.

They have been slowly getting better

The numbers I gave are for one year, not six months.  Time flies.  DP has paid me about $5 per month.  I'm not disappointed because i expected little.  As I upload to the agents that pay hundreds per month, it is not a big deal to put DP into the mix.  Same with Veer or Bigstock.  How hard is it if you have the time?  And some surprise. 123RF went from $20/month to an average of over $50 in the last four months.  Crazy business, and I'm only 2.5 years into microstock, so I can't tell you much, just what's happened for me.  Aloha.

I've been seeing more action there the last few months.  I've been there over a year now and close to my first payout with them.  Here's my stats since I signed up back in February 2010

498 online files

Not stellar numbers but can't complain too much.  This past April was my best month with them so far.

Today I got an email saying that site "has a keen interested in the quality of your (my) work"...etc., etc.
And wanted me to upload "free".

Then there was these curious sentences:
To entice you into our collective, we're prepared to guarantee higher
placement in our site search results for better product visibility and
higher sales volumes. Besides, we undertake image uploading for sale.

I wonder if that means they'll pay me to upload?  I guess they've done that in the past. If not I suppose they will just give me better treatment than their old faithful contributors.

I pass.

They did do that in the beginning when they started out then they stopped I guess last July.  Not sure if they're doing that again or not.  That email does seem a bit odd though.  I'd check the headers to make sure it's actually coming from them and not somewhere else.

sounds to me like (i think???) they want a collection of stuff to give away? The offer of a search boost is better than some offer in return for a "donate to free section"
if thats what it is i think i'd pass at deposits offer

it would help if it did not read like it came through babelfish.

I'm relatively new to the stock photography thingymewatsit (5 months) and submit images to a range of sites, sales at Deposit photos have been almost non existant but I have had 6 downloads in the last 5 days (380images online)...  Not enought to grab a beer but better than nowt I guess.

franky242

Same for me, sales seem to increase over the last few weeks, hope that continues... However most of them subscriptions as stated before...

luissantos84

I have around 125 sales there since the start.. have 4 canceled so far.. quite big comparing to FT and DT

I think it means they will click them through the categories etc for you. you just have to upload them

Wow, at last someone with sales with a traceable portfolio! Thank you for the feedback.

lagereek

Had a look at them and the site looks nice. Tried their search-engine and far too much generic stuff, no place for special or nieched material. Pitty really.

What do you mean? Aren´t their search results based on popularity? That would obviously mean, that the popular stuff comes first and you have to either look further for "sepcial" stuff, or specify your search accordingly. Or is that not, what you meant?

on topic!  yes I get that as well and offering higher commission and guarantees better placements. If one could rely on it, OK!  but sadly you cant trust it.

so I pass.

Microbius

I too had that email, but wouldn't touch them with yours.
People need to look into the background of the site before they upload.
A search on this forum is a good place to start.

Exactly. I don't understand why anyone is involved with this company at all.

It's a shame they're even allowed to advertise on this forum.

Yuri, Dolgachov, Luba Nell are a few who are with them. I don't see anything dodgy.

They did offer cash incentives before for uploading but not anymore.

Agreed 100%...I made the mistake of uploading there at the biginning myself...I should have listen to what was said about them on this forum by some well inform members.

To be fair, I don't know exactly what the connection currently is between DepositPhotos and DepositFiles. But past info suggests a direct connection and some shady efforts to hide the actual location of the company. I struggle with the idea of doing business with a company that is or was in any way connected to another site that enabled the piracy of my work.

What really troubles me is the idea that these two sites could be more connected than we even know about. At the very least we know that they shared a common investor. So it stands to reason that someone profited from DepositFiles (which came before Photos), and then put some of their money into DepositPhotos which was (in part) used for these uploading incentives. In theory, money made from a piracy site could have been used to pay the victims of the piracy to upload their work to the new site. It's just a theory, of course, but not an unreasonable one.

Regardless, I'm not about to support someone who profits from the piracy of my images, even if it's in a roundabout way. On top of that, the company is represented by some extremely shady individuals who openly threatened people in this very forum for uncovering connections to DepositFiles.

So just because Yuri, Lev, Luba and others are on board, and just because the connection to DepositFiles is not as apparent as it was previously, that doesn't make DepositPhotos any more appealing to me now than in the past.

luissantos84

this DP issue keep on showing up.. it would be nice to hear from them

sharpshot

I think this is a more complicated ethical situation.  Should we punish these people if they are operating a legitimate microstock site?  Has DepositFiles done anything worse than hundreds of other sites that let people upload and download whatever they want?

I have no problems using napster now.  I know some people wont use them because of what happened in the past but I would rather encourage them to become a more ethical business.
