Veer technical/workflow guru Shawn Haskell - (twitter: @forpositiononly), has posted 5 video tutorials covering some ways to improve files when submitting to Veer - including:

- how to prep vector files for submission
- reducing dark circles under eyes
- whitening teeth
- checking and fixing filled shadows
- checking and fixing blown highlights

Check 'em all out on his Ideas post page here: http://ideas.veer.com/members/forpositiononly/posts

Shawn will be putting more of these together - he's planning to cover a range of retouch, workflow and technical topics.  Be sure to let Shawn or I know if there are specific questions or topics you want to see him cover.

Thanks Brian,
but the whitening teeth tutorial is copied from Scott Kelby's book "The Photoshop book for digital photographers", first published in 2003. Maybe there should be some note that mentions that, so those of us who read it can skip this tutorial.

with something as simple as this can, anyone really claim that they were the author of the idea.  I think several people could easily have the same idea .. I can't say I have read Scott's book, but If I were to give 4 different ways for whitening teeth this would probably be one of them.

I usually make a selecting by just brushing the layer mask, but making it with the lasso tool isn't much different.  Then I use the the hue saturation layer mask (not too many choices there)

I feel that saying that Scott Kelby 'owns' this technique is like saying someone else owns the technique of how to tie a shoe.

I just thought you should know. In case you want to buy it :)

I'll mention that reference to Shawn - but obviously this is just one of many ways to whiten teeth. Shawn wanted to present a simpler way to start - he is very aware that some of the techniques may not be best practice for more experienced Photoshop'ers.

Hello Brian,

Now that you are here :) I have a question regarding vectors.

As a vector submitter this is currently my only concern about veer... When will you be offering JPEG versions of vector illustrations?

Thanks

Hi Shawn

nice tutorial.  I haven't used that technique before so it was nice to see it done.
also, well done tutorial in the fluidness of it.  I spent a few hours today trying to get a tutorial done for tutorvid.com but the software kept having problems :(  perhaps I'll try again tomorrow, but my point is ... the more I try to make tutorials the more respect I have for those who do them well.

I've uploaded a new tutorial showing how to remove large logos or branding without using your clone stamp or healing brush. This technique is especially useful when you don't have enough good donor material to sample from.

I've uploaded a new tutorial showing how to increase contrast using a blending mode. I show you the difference between applying a soft light blend mode to all three color channels (RGB) versus one color channel (red). This demonstration shows how applying a blend mode to a single channel can help preserve details, especially in the shadows.

I've uploaded a new tutorial showing how to fix flat looking photos. This technique is especially useful to help recover washed out or flat photos caused by lens flare. I use a multiply blending mode and a curves adjustment layer to increase the dynamic range and contrast of the photo.

I've uploaded a new tutorial showing how to sharpen images using a High Pass filter. This technique helps increase detail while minimizing artifacts and noise. The process combines an Overlay blending mode with a High Pass filter.

Thanks to everyone who took time to respond to our survey. This tutorial was requested by one of the respondents, I hope it helps.

I've uploaded a new tutorial showing how to use Photoshop to retouch portraits. I show the importance of keeping tone and texture similar when sampling your source, and explain why retouch edits should be made at actual size or larger.

I've uploaded a new tutorial showing how to use Photoshop to replace a head using a donor image. I show you how to make the initial selection, so that you can copy and paste the donor image into the working file. I finish by demonstrating how to use a mask to conceal and reveal the donor image. This trick can really help salvage those photos where one of your models is blinking or has the wrong expression.

Thanks so much.  It's very good of you to do this.

After watching the newest one, I tried to view the earlier tutorials, but the links don't appear to work.  Has their location changed?

@rubyroo Due to recent changes at veer.com, the links directing you to Veer Ideas won't work. Chelsey explains the changes at Veer Ideas here: http://www.microstockgroup.com/veer-marketplace/new-public-profile-pages-for-veer-contributors/

You can always access all the Contributor Tutorials by going straight to the Veer Ideas' YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/veerideas.

you can also easily put the vid in your post with just the youtube link....

I've uploaded a new tutorial showing how to use the White Balance tool in Adobe Lightroom. I show how to identify a neutral target, so you can make the right target selection. I also explain how the temperature and tint affect the color balance of your photos.
