Is it mandatory that you have to submit 3 images for the initial review?  Also, if accepted, will I have to come up with 3 images to submit each time or can it be 1 or more per time?

1 or more.

Bear in mind that your three images are only for admission to iS.
If accepted, you will have to submit them again for a stricter technical assessment, and your three initial images may not all get into the iS collection.

Thanks.  I'm taking this one step at a time.  Trying to prepare my best work for the 3 initial...then see what happens.

Not unless things have changed.
It'll be clear to you when you have everything ready and start to apply.
