Do u think that the big guns eg SS, DT, FT or IS are watching and monitoring the development and growth of symbiostock?

Do you think they are concerned that if it gains momentum it could be a serious threat to them?

Ron

they are probably watching, but not concerned. If hey are not concerned about letting go Sean and losing Yuri, they are not concerned about Symbiostock.

Only if it grows in the millions of images and the supply to the agencies stops (or images being pulled) they might get nervous.

70K images is a half a week at SS and a week at IS to replenish.

Maybe an agency like CanStockPhoto is more worried.

On the submitter side I doubt enough people would be willing to go exclusively with the Symbiostock network to worry them - they don't care about submitters we are a renewable resource  although if everyone did it or even a large majority we would become successful as clients would have to come to us, that would worry them.

On the other hand when (not if) we start getting a regular stream of customers, especially if we can entice the bigger buyers then that would start to worry them, big companies worry about finances, not people.

Can you just imagine if everyone built up their own sites and on X day say a year in the future went exclusive for themselves ?

When we get a couple of hundred sites and a network that buyers can find what they want, the agencies will start to notice

JPSDK

That goal could be reached in a couple of months.

And when they watch, they like when the little men fight among eachother.

They probly think this is cute.

JPSDK

They would observe if something suddently changed or if someone stole the idea and popped it up at a dangerous place.

Windmills were also only cute in the beginning.

All the low earners are going to be worried for sure! This is sort of like the kiss of death- it will not happen over night but in a few years they will be gone...

EmberMike

I hope they are, and maybe wondering why so many people have decided to try selling direct. It says something about the agency model that the direct independent model is gaining in popularity.

cthoman

It's probably too new to take seriously. I'm not sure I'm even a believer at this point. It's definitely interesting to watch, so I'm sure somebody is at least paying attention.

1. No. They are too busy thinking about how to take more from their contributors.

2. Not yet. I predict that the growth of Symbiostock will be exponential. Very steep - mark my words. Most observers think in linear terms.

If everyone stopped uploading to the the low earners and put new files only on the big 3 and Sym, it would start to make a difference.

that's basically my philosophy, but since they ARE low earners it probably doesn't matter much - they don't have any presence in google search

123rf has a large presence in google search. I think I've finally worked out how they do this. It seems they tag different titles to the same images.

agree Leo, your work on this project is amazingly generous and progressive, but yeah, I think I agree. They aren't worried.

Amanda needs to add this to the knowledge base:

  •     Keep your Symbiostock away from bright lights, especially sunlight.
  •     Never allow your Symbiostock to get wet.
  •     Never feed your Symbiostock after midnight.

Speaking of 1980's inside jokes, the Symbiostock cheat still works (for those who have not tried it)

Go into your bumble bee panel and enter this on your keyboard:

UP, UP, DOWN, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT, B, A, B, A, ENTER

(Gives you unlimited sales. Go ahead, it really works)

The small agencies could join and support and gain from Symbiostock in many ways...., if they go out of business because of Symbiostock it's their fault entirely!

I just had a look into Wordfence Live Traffic: Someone from Calgary, Canada visited my site some hours ago ... wonder who it was  ;D

Agreed.  Sites with very low earnings and mediocre commissions are probably concerned (or should be) and may have a hard time attracting photographers in the future.  Large sites like Shutterstock, Fotolia, iStock etc. offer the buyer a completely different 'experience' and are in a different league.
