So, what's the deal with comments?  Should we reply and thank?  Should we comment the person's image? Is there any etiquette regarding that?

I've seen that comments are fairly common for ratings that are higher or lower on the scales. The seemed to be quite appreciated and most people respond with thanks or appreciation.

I hope this helps :)

I'll reply with "thanks" to those who buy!!!   ;)

I usually thank or reciprocate when I think they took a look. Often I get a whole stream of images with 'nice' as if they only did it to improve their own rating. (You get points for comments left). I got several the other day with 'insert comment here' in each one.

Personally I like to respond to anyone that takes the time and effort to comment on my photos ...

I have noticed that many of the latest/newest images that are submitted already have ratings before anyone even views them.  How does that happen?

For example, check here and you will see many of the images already have a score at the bottom of the thumbnail:

Anyone know how the scores are calculated?

From what I have been able to ascertain, images are assigned an initial MP Index (usually pretty low to start)  and I believe it is at least in part calculated by how well you are established with what you've accomplished with your other images to date.

So if you've been averaging higer scores overall then your initial MP Index figure would be slightly higher for new images even before they are voted on. However, images with zero votes are still shown lower than those with votes for the most part.

I hope this helps.

I will try to find their forum link about the MP Index calculations and post it in this thread ...

The problem is, getting a lot of comments means time commenting other people's images.   :-\
