Is it really necessary to constantly upload at Shutterstock to maintain sales?

Can a folio sustain sales with irregular uploading?
What are your views/personal experience on this?

There are those that say yes, they have pretty consistand downloads without uploading constantly. I would guess that they have exceptional portfolios.

I myself have not found this to be the case though.
For me it is upload or die on SS.

I didn't upload any files for a couple of months at shutterstock, and sales plummeted, last month I started uploading again, and found that my sales in March were almost 3 times what they were in February, even though I only added an extra 20 files, which equated to 10% of my existing portfolio.

I found that it is necessary to upload around 5 new photos every weekend. That seems to carry you through the week.

I stopped for a about 6 months after my surgery last spring and sales went totally down the toilet.

I didn't upload for 2 months last summer and my SS income went down roughly 15% (a lot more than the other agencies). The moment I restarted submitting, things went back up.

You really don,t need to upload that much to keep you portfolio "alive". I do believe constant uploads are the keep for maximum portfolio exposure at SS.
