Hello all,  I just made my first submission to SS and managed the 7/10 to get an acceptance. The first real day of sales looks good.  16 DL for 7 images. I guess I could just hang back and wait but am curious what sort of DL curve  for any particular image takes over time. Does it start off hot and then crash or is there a build then gradual decrease?

Read the SS forum threads and you will see time after time, "you have to keep uploading to maintain sales"

It seems like the search promotes new images and the biggest sellers, I only had a small portfolio of 50 images there for a few months, but found when the images were new the sales were very good

My best month was 72 downloads and I stopped uploading in January and Sales went January=42, February=16, March=13 and April 8

I do think it is the search model at Shutterstock because at Istock I get steady downloads with only 40 images, so they must be getting found in the searches

I have been told that I should not base my analysis on only 50 images, so it will be interesting to hear what other say.

But I think it will be "you must upload upload upload" to maintain sales that is unless you have an untapped market where only your images come up in the search

My consistently best selling image was uploaded in my first batch over a year and a half ago and sells daily and often has multiple sales but other images which I think are equally good often gradually sink.

This is not scientific, but I noticed that uploading even 1 image will boost sales of others... If I have a lot of images to upload I try to spread it out to get the best sales numbers.

Has anyone else noticed this, or am I seeing causality in a coincidence?

Pfft.. i remember when i had an image that got download 19 times on its first day. Grand total of downloads after that very first day: 0  ???

Now that's what i call a short life span  ;D

Argus,  It's statistics like this that really make me wonder what is going on. As you say; one day really is a short life span.

it's a rule on SS: after first submissions first days and weeks downloads always a huge. Then they will normalize to market's demand level. Some will last download in years (I wish...), some not. I remember I was shocked a couple years ago when I got hundreds downlds in first days.

Keep uploading to see steady downloads. And perhaps you will be influenced with general situation on SS. Read forums what's going on...

Yes, my first full month on SS (August last year), I had over 250 DLs with less than 100 images. That was my BME, even though I've got over 250 images on-line now.
