alamy 6th, possible, envato 4th, no way jose, impossible, these polls are manipulated for sure

It's quite ridiculous to claim that the poll is manipulated just because you don't like it.

What I'm wondering about though is whether the poll is statistically relevant. E.g., if only successful Envato users report earnings, then they will be pushed up too far. Same in the other direction. A mass of unsuccessful microstockers reporting low earnings on Alamy might push them down in the stats, while many who are successful don't participate because they're not in this microstock forum.

Its OK as a rough guide but a statistician would roll on the floor laughing if someone claimed it was statistically robust but its probably the best we have. For me the order is around correct the proportions less so.

Old editorial images. This is what they sell to an 80% extent. Any creative and commercial content you can forget. Whats even worse is that their so called brilliant default search mix editorial with creative.

i would say the polls reflect who in general will succeed , as opposed to a handful of big earners with a certain agency.
iow, if you're a newbie and intend to make money, you would do better with ss, is, fotolia, ..

you are right in saying successful don't participate , which is good too,
as just because a handful earn 80 % of the agency's sales, does not mean you are going to
be the new top seller .
so i would say, the poll is demographically-correct, ....
is that how you say it??? demograph???
iow, almost anyone can make money based on the earning rating here.

Maybe I'm stubborn but I'm sticking with Alamy! I like their business model and they seem to treat contributors with respect.

They appear to suit my style for editorial and travel. RF isolated on blue sky stuff I'll keep sending over to Shutterstock.

I've been submitting for about a year now and here's where I'm at (still waiting for that $300+) but I feel it's coming.

Total Images: 1,276
Gross earnings: $96 (4 sales)
Net earnings: $33

Total views: 6845
Total zooms: 31
Total CTR: 0.45

You do realise you can't sell RM on Alamy as Editorial on SS I take it?

Yeah, mixing licenses between sites is a big no no.

You have at least some of the same images as RF on SS and RM on Alamy.
Just my opinion.

I'll conduct an audit, thanks for pointing this out.

Good, it undermines the value of RM for everyone.
Just my opinion.

i must be missing something here. how is it you are happy with alamy
with 1276 images earning 96 bucks in 1 year and 6846 views???
this many views at ss would get you more in a month.

Never said I was happy, just optimistic! :)

SpaceStockFootage

So in 40 years you'll have made $1 per image?

I like Alamy but I wish they would hurry up and sort out the keyword priorities.
It has gone from bad to worse for me in the last few days. The commas between my keywords previously disappeared in "manage images" meaning I could simply copy and paste to the relevant boxes, now the commas remain and I have to deal with them too.

The commas are slated to stay, thank goodness, according to what I've read on the forum there. Indeed, they are recommended now, as they always should have been (to keep keyword phrases together). Finally a step in the right direction.  :)

The main forum thread which is discussing this:

Thanks, I will check on that but just for the record the commas had gone on the next batch I edited. Life should be much easier when they finally get the new system up and running.

The point is that now we should be putting our own commas in, particularly for words we want to stay together (keyword phrases).

emjaysmith

I read the article on Alamy forum and no-one seems to know exactly what we are supposed to be doing for sure. I have always used quotation marks up to now which I thought was what we were supposed to do and worked fine up to now.
if we are meant to use commas then why does their system remove them at the final stage.
It is evident from following the forum link that you posted that I am not the only person who is unsure of what is meant to be happening.

ShadySue

Indeed, their official word says to include commas. I keyword at the upload stage, and have always inserted commas as it made sense for me to do so. I've never had them removed.
Quotation marks historically sometimes worked and sometimes didn't, and I think their other stated ways of keeping keywords together never actually worked. Until recently, commas had no effect, but having put them in will save me a lot of time now.

emjaysmith

Like a lot of other people, I am left hoping that I don't have to go back and edit thousands of existing images already online there.
