I got 3 more added to the free section from the 3rd wave. I'm clueless which one they are because I didn't keep a track, which ones were selected in the first two waves.

I just saw one of the new batch show up in my portfolio

How can I remove images from the free collection "in review" queue? Also is it possible to refund the $5 for images accepted and remove from free collection? @MatHayward @MatHayward

Will message support for a response, too.

We are handling this 3rd wave differently than the previous 2. The selected files will remain in your paid portfolio for a short period of time yet to be determined. We are paying for the use in advance to simplify the process on our end when transferring images into the free collection. As always, we are closely watching the collection to determine what, if any impact there may be on the paid collection. By paying in advance, we can move the images at the appropriate time in a more seamless manner.

Its now been couple of weeks since I was notified that I'd had 8 images slected for the Free Collection in this 3rd wave. The relevant amount ($40) was credited to my account but only 1 of these images has been identified so far as now being "Free".
The 1st and 2nd tranches only took a day or so before they were marked up as Free so it would be instructive to know how long the "short period of time yet to be determined" might extend to.
Can anyone ( Mat ? ) shed any light on this matter ? Thanks

Firn

He already did, though I can't find the post anymore. He said they want to be more flexible with the 3rd wave and only add new content to the free gallery in small steps, so single images from the ones that were included in the last wave might be added to the free collection over a long period of time.

Mat explained this in the first post of this thread:
Quote from: MatHayward on August 30, 2021, 21:28Hi Everyone,

At this moment, we are making upfront payments for the 3rd wave of selections for the Free collection from the images you had previously nominated. If any of your images are selected for this wave, you will see your balance go up automatically within the next couple of hours. We will be sending you an email in the next day or so with the number of files approved and the amount of credits added to your account balance.

It is worth noting that the 12 month period in which your nominated assets are available for the Free collection begins the moment the payment is added to your account.

Thank you,

For Real

We should know if there is a final 4th wave in a few weeks - maybe on Sept 30th  :)

After my sales very much dried out, I took a look at free section and saw lot of images directly competing with my best sellers, which wasn't the case couple months ago. Well done, Adobe. And all of you who gave them for free, pardon for 5$, gee, thanks. Btw. some of my best selling images with this theme were sold more than thousand times.

Thanks to everyone who nominated their photos for the Free collection. The approval process is now complete and all approved photos from your nominations have been moved into the Free collection. All other images you nominated but were not selected will remain in your paid portfolio. I'll be sure to update you should any additional opportunities come up in the future.

Thanks again,

Mat Hayward

Thanks, Mat. I was wondering when they would all show up in that list on my dashboard. Interesting choices!

For anyone who's not keeping a tally of how large the free section now is, with this latest increase, it now totals 873,762 items, 825,371 of which are photos.

Photos represent just shy of 64% of Adobe's entire collection, but in the free section, photos are over 94% of the total.

Either that means photos are popular with Adobe's users, or it's that photos are now the loss leader and it's the other asset types that Adobe hopes will continue to make money. Or something else entirely :)

Vectors, for example, are 20% of the entire collection but only 3% of the Free section; videos 8% and 1% respectively.

In addition to work from existing contributors, I see more new artists who only have work in the Free collection - I assume where there is a niche they see as unfilled?

Oct 20, 2021: Edited to add that the free section is a little smaller, I assume because the year is up on some of the original content and it has returned to the main collection. Today, the total was 831,910 - 792,820 photos and 18,583 vectors (down about 8,000). Illustrations were about 20 fewer and videos about 1,300 fewer.

any news about vectors ?

Regarding the stats I shared above, vectors are just over 20% of the total collection and 3% of the free section.

In other words, vectors are under-represented in the free collection, which has to be overall good for vector artists. I don't submit vectors to Adobe Stock, so I'll leave it to others who do to comment on the state of sales. Earlier in the year, some vector artists were saying that vectors didn't sell as well at Adobe Stock as other sites (and that was a reason many were sticking with Shutterstock even after the royalty cuts).

When the Free section started last October, it was just over 77,000 in total with about 14,900 vectors - so vectors were about 19% of the free section then.

Actually my vectors were not showing as available to submit for the free collection and I know others had the same, so I think the "Illustrations" that did get into the free section, as Vectors, might have been in error? Maybe Mat can advise on the actual situation?

I got an email saying two more of mine were accepted, nothing changed, so maybe it was an old message that just came through? Oops, there they are. It took about a month, now they are in the free collection.

Now my question. If someone downloads one of those, FREE, does the download count change from 1 to 2? Can I see how many times one of the free images is actually given away?

Only photos were eligible for nomination this past summer through the offer that was discussed here in MSG.

Downloads in the Free collection do not affect your download statistics in the portal.

Mat, many images which are obviously illustrations I am finding in Photos subcategory in Free section. And I'm pretty sure they were not there until recently. I guess they were marked as Photos while uploading but that doesn't make me happier to see them in Free section.

Ok. So, about those vector nominations...
I got hundreds of vectors nominated and now I don't know what to do. What's the acceptance rate?

As usual - it depends. For photos I only selected those that don't sell well anywhere and are not particularly unique or difficult to take for me. I don't remember how many I ended up nominating but I think well under 50% of those got accepted.
