Okay, maybe I've been under a rock too long. When did SS start this Asset Data thing for buyers to see?

Months ago and its all garbage I've plenty of images showing "Usage Not used yet" even when the images have sold a number of times 

Yeah, my bestsellers with hundrets of sales on Shutterstock are "not used yet". 
The data is all messed up.

My best seller of the last year: hundreds of sales, Popularity high (seems to be fair), usage: not used yet. 
On the other side: an image that only sold a few times. Popularity medium and often used. 
Or: an image that hasn't been generating any sales the past year and historically only sold 5 times: popularity high and often used. 

It makes no sense at all, and it does more bad than good for their customers.

I really wonder which criteria they use. Maybe Shutterstock bots are scraping the internet looking for usage of images in their database. But that would make no sense, as internet usage is only one part where our content may appear.

The only thing I could figure out was that time of upload seems to play a role. Images I uploaded less than 12 months ago always seem to be "not used yet", no matter how often they actually sold.  What a great way to promote newer content....

Yep. Incredible. Older images if they've only sold a few times get the 'SS customers love this asset' predicate whilst new images that have sold many more times get the 'not used yet' label.

I sometimes use it to see if a certain topic is selling well. If it says high or average, you at least know that it is being sold.
Furthermore, we discussed it in detail at Shutterstock forum. Perhaps a customer thinks at similar photos "Let me buy the infrequently sold photo" No idea really.
Also no idea why they switched to this system fairly quickly after the rating numbers (6 to 10).

A lot of the time it seems quite accurate but not all the time. Looked at one that stated, Popularity = High, Usage = Not Used Yet, Rare Gem.

Double checked the image as I was quite sure it sells. Sure enough, it's sold just the 500 times in the last 12 months?!? It's like SS have the opposite to "Midas Touch". Everything they touch seem to turn into something soft and brown

Hey BugMan  If the data is wrong, and I'll say I don't know how many people have said, they have sold images that show as no sales, how can we learn anything from that?

I like it when I see things like this.

I suppose the questions are:

Do customers actually care about this information?

To what extent does the information influence their purchasing decision?

My best seller this year (2021) with 125 sales is rated as "Medium" and "Not Used Yet". Would an accurate rating have improved sales?

Example Pete  . I had photographed a sponge for fun https://www.shutterstock.com/nl/image-photo/sponge-texture-close-background-2080447885 and wondered if it sold. First, I saw that I was not the only one with that idea. But I also saw pictures with High. https://www.shutterstock.com/nl/image-photo/yellow-sponge-texture-background-close-122993512 Not completely reliable, but apparently there is a demand for it.

I also occasionally look at the illustrations and photos that my son has recently put on Shutterstock. If it's low, I know there's interest in it. I can also call him of course  .

In my case the data is correct for almost all of my images - exept for some newer ones. But I don't know what this data is good for.
