wow.. that is a lot of big glass :)

anyone know which lenses most of those are?  Are they like the 500, 600 and 800mm lenses?

PenelopeB

Wow ... they've got monopods for the lens, not the camera!

(I feel so under equipped) sniff.   ::)

yeah, you don't have to get a very big lens to get a 'lens ring' for your tripod.  Even the 180mm macro, and 70-200mm 2.8 have them.

It seem to be 400 f/2.8 IF ED II

OR the 400 f/2.8 G ED VR II, but the shape is different

Strange because it say "release in 2002 and 2007" for the last one and I wasn't even know there was a 400 open at f/2.8

Did you see the horrible vests these poor photographers are wearing at the Olympics. Fashion is back to the 80's

PenelopeB

So what do you call those vests??

Permanent Press!  HA

OMG, I noticed the vests last night.  How lovely.  They have an assigned number on the back, something like "Photog 4402".    Is this normal? To give the photographers a "uniform"?

And, are the photos censored I wonder by that crazy government?

How much money do you think is sitting in the inventory that press booth?

Hey Penny, I was in your part of the world last week.  Spent Saturday night on Lake Simco.

PenelopeB

Hey Pixart... you lucky person!!  Did you see any floating dead Carp? or have they cleaned them all up.

What part of Simcoe were you on?
Penny

Pixart

Lucky me, I missed the carp (although I experienced millions of floating walleye last summer at my sisters cottage in Sask BLECH!!!).  I guess it wasn't last Saturday it was the Saturday before (two weeks this weekend).  Their place is near Pefferlaw.  You are nearby aren't you?

Steve

Those are the "I am not a suicide bomber" version of a photo vest.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/shop/448/Photo_Apparel_Collectibles_Vests.html

They are designed to distribute the weight of heavy gear and are good in situations where you dare not set down a photo bag or are carrying to much weight to comfortably hang off an arm.  Normally they are used with various hard lens cases (unless they've changed in the last couple of years).  They also have ample pocket for film / extra SD cards (blanks in one pocket, shot cards in the other).  I believe another reason they're used is dealing with a big beast of a lens and a photo bag at the same time can lead to gear overload.

Personally I've never much seen the point.  I returned the one I was given back when these things cost a couple hundred bucks a bought a good flash.

PenelopeB

We swim and fish near Pefferlaw (in-between Pefferlaw and Duclos Point) where there is a beautiful beach. Everyone does a "floatilla" with tons of boats on a hot day. It's called Chicken Bay fronting on Duclos Point Provincial Park (sanctuary, not a camping park).
We're about 15 minutes from Pefferlaw.

Steve - "I am not a suicide bomber" vest  - I love it!!

probably well over $1,000,000

100 photographers, with lenses for  $7000 on the camera makes $700,000 then add the cameras, their spare camera, their spare or other lenses... and things start adding up...

I'm just blown away by the guy in the yellow cap, front row, just to the right of the Olympic rings on blue.

Do you think he forgot his Really Big Camera and is having to make do with a P&S?

Or is he just showing up all those posers with their drainpipe lenses?
Get yourself along to the PhotoZone

Read_My_Rights

He probably got a press pass from OlyPanSony to show that their brand spanking new 16-600mm subcompact camera is just as good as the lenses that these idiots brought to the Olympics.

HAHAHAHAHAHA

Good find Bateleur. He actually has a little one in his hands - I think.
ID withheld to protect the (not so) innocent;)

Steve

I think it might be a remote release for a camera on the floor.

le_cyclope

Someone please tell him to look at his right...
