Starting from last week I've got several emails from Canva with "Notice of violation" topic.

In each email there are noticed about some of my contents (3-5 in each mail) like:

"Violation details
Smiling Young Woman in Bikini Swimsuit on Beach (Raster)
Facts and circumstances:
We identified this content through our own investigation.
This content violates our policies on sexual content.
This decision was made by a member of our team.
Enforcement taken:
This content won't be shown to Canva Education account holders."

These are all old contents, uploaded 2 years ago or more. Beach photos in bikinis, protos of people drinking beer in the bar and similar. Usual stock contents.

It's OK for me if they delete some previously accepted contents, but latest email also says: "Repeated violations may result in the permanent suspension of your Canva account." Nothing like this in previous emails.

It would be so stupid to lose my account just because they deleted some old contents. I wonder if I'm the only one getting these notices lately.

I honestly don't understand what sense there is in removing images from 4 years ago or even 3 uploaded to my portfolio when maybe there weren't even these strict restrictions and rules yet, it doesn't make sense, it's very strange, especially having your account suspended for images that you didn't know they could break the rules

yes, but it makes no sense to block contributor accounts who have images that are not suitable for the new guidelines, it should be like this for those who upload these prohibited images now, not for those who have had them in their portfolio for 4 years, it is unfair, at most they will take care of removing them without block accounts!

I really hope old contents that are being deleted now because of new guidelines will not trigger disabling of accounts. It would be a nonsense.

They could have worded the email differently, instead of 'violation'. They accepted it years ago so it's not MY violation.

violation or not???

I had one too :  they deleted a photo of a tiger eating prey (which happens to be a large piece of meat, probably because tigers don't like veggies).  Reason:  violent content.
They did not delete any of the other 10 photos of the same tiger with the same prey ...  (though they are easily found with the same keywords).
Would you delete those?

I have received a couple of such notices as well, and it really raised concern and anxiety. They were contents I submitted and approved years ago, and if there is a new guideline, I will definitely comply... but strong words such as "Repeated violations may result in the permanent suspension of your Canva account." is a very scary statement. Like everybody mentioned here, it will be too harsh if we got suspended due to content from the past.

Have you received feedback from Canva regarding this yet? Please share the information you received.

I don't know what I did to you to keep harrassing me with this allegation, but I do know it's not the first time you're doing this. I've already replied to your allegation in another thread, but you just can't seem to leave it alone. Please, get a life.

i had an erotic sculpture of the kama sutra on a temple in India removed  - they said they had ONE complaint so removed it.  i pointed out that not only are there dozens of similar images in their collection, but these are easily accepted by all other agencies without any warnings attached

They just removed the map of India for me, do you think this is normal? Always an old image uploaded before the new guidelines, crazy stuff!

OK, they now started sending me "violations" e-mails about all kinds of subjects.  As soon as a drop of blood, a suggestion of abuse, a dead animal, or any form of angry face is in view, it has become a violation.
If they really mean it with their threat to suspend violating accounts, Canva will probably be left with 10% of its artists, with only "nice" images of smiling happy vegetarians.


So the only thing I can do to protect my portfolio, is to start deleting "violent" images myself, but I don't see a "delete" button.  I can see an "unpublish" button on the "my items" page.
Can anyone find a real DELETE button, or is UNPUBLISH the only way to remove items ?

I doubt it will lead to account suspension, because the new policy is applied retro-actively instead.

The funny thing is: Canva is known for deleting hundreds of images behind our backs, without notice and without any clear reason, and now they start sending violation e-mails about single photos ... haha.


It often happens that I submit a 50-image batch, of which 30 are accepted ... resulting in a total of +10 online files.  No way to find which 20 old ones they deleted (or why).

This afternoon I wrote to the people at Canva complaining about the fact that they send notifications on images uploaded 3 or 4 years ago that violate the new rules and they replied that they will solve this problem, do you believe it?

Sure, they will be forced to admit that the warning is some generic boilerplate to explain when an image is removed for sensitive content, violence, or some new restriction that they are backdating the collection.

Or possible solution, take that last sentence that threatens artists, off the standard notification message? 

I got one today for an image of US money (100$ bills). None of my images show complete bills that could be used for counterfeit, but whatever. They have been deleting images without notice for years, so for some reason they gave notice for this one.

edited to add - I decided to do a search for "100 dollar us bill" and it returned 1843146 photos, including what looks like straight scans of bills - which probably is illegal - so they have a bit more deleting to do.

The same email is currently being sent for all content removals, whether very serious violations of our Acceptable Use Policy, or contributed content removed from Creators as part of ongoing content library audits.

The messaging around "suspension" is not intended for the latter case; so please don't be alarmed by this, and you don't need to worry about account suspension.
