I was expecting a lot less this year. Previous years were based on my entire portfolio of images / footage... 20k in total. This year is just new images. I'm more of a quality over quantity these days... about 100 images in the twelve months so the $260 isn't too bad I guess. Although it would have been nice to receive the first bonus amount again. Cheers Adobe.

lowbouncerate

got 2 bonus, perhaps 1 for vectors/illustration: 140 and Videos 60
3x from last year

hansenn

Also 2 amounts here.

Errr... you do realise the payment is based on the new images you've uploaded between June 2024 & June 2025 and not your entire portfolio? Payment is based on a combination of vol of new uploads & the number of times they've been downloaded.

I uploaded twice as many images in the past year than I did the year before. Last year I got $106, now I get $3.54  ???  :-\

Last year was for footage and the year before images. It took into account all your files submitted and the number of times they've been downloaded in total. This year is the first year that it's based on 12 months only, June 24 through to June 25.

Personally, I'm of the opinion that the calculation should be based on the entire portfolio each time but weighted towards the volume of downloads it receives over the past 12 months. That way you'd be paid for continued relevant content that is likely to still being used continually with their AI model and generating... if a file was submitted a few years back and only receives payment for one 12 month spell but it makes 20 times more than that year over the course of 10 years then it would feel it was being undervalued initially.

I am aware of this, I calculated for this period. The images and videos were also taken into account for this period. "Today, we are also announcing our third Firefly Contributor bonus payment, which will pay Contributors for all content that's been made available for training our Firefly AI models in the past year." It is possible that so little of the material I uploaded was used, but in any case, I did not expect this based on last year's amount.

2024 : 400$
2025 : 8$

As expected, the carrot and then "lost in the depths of the hinterlands". (I asked to grok for a more poetic way to express "deep in the .ss")...

I got around one half of previous year. Nevertheless, it is "weird" that only new content for a given year is included. The old photos are still used in the Firefly model and still generate revenue through it, so they still should create revenue for a contributor. That would be great model to produce content for training AI system as that may lead to nice passive income model and to push contributors to produce more content to cover more topics. But 1 year only?

You're right. Used for training isn't the same as used for generating new images. Once we have been used and paid, they don't need those same images and they aren't going to be re-used. Maybe for some new training, a different data set, a different user, but not for each set.

Not that I wouldn't like to get paid for the use, and a percentage of the future profits, but that's not how it works.

These AI creations use our work, one time, for training, and then the training is used to make the new works. There's no direct use of our actual images, to make the new. It's possible that we have been paid for something that will never be used for anything new, but it was licensed for the training database.

There is no direct connection between the specific, individual works, that are used for training and the new works that are GENERATED by machine learning. That's the part that let these companies, claim fair use for PD works.

2024 1100$
2025 119$

2 years ago stock photography and video was 95% of my income. In the last 2 years I have found other sources and now it has become 70% decreasing while my other venues are growing and growing. I am glad I took that decision at a time when the hit was not so hard. Looking at the black hole AI is creating I doubt that any photographer or videographer will make a full time income in a couple of years.

Simon Brough

Last year $2,700
This year $1.43

Yep, one dollar and 43.

Do you think they just scraped everything last year and can scrape no more?  :(

Simon Brough

I'd hazard a guess that our image and video data is scraped once, for which we're compensated, then stored and used multiple times thereafter. We obviously agreed to this in the Terms ??? - as there's no opt-out.

So much for Firefly's 'ethically' trained generative AI >:(

Pretty sickening behaviour from Adobe.

2024: $884.63
2025: $172.53

I expected a drop due to previously using entire ports afresh (as I understand) and therefore a lot more data for these AI machines to 'learn'. So I am okay with this but some of the difference of compensation amounts from 2024 to 2025 in posts above is incredible. Can appreciate the frustration. Did you guys upload much throughout the period?

danielvisuals

I guess I must have uploaded about 450 images and 500-600 videos during that period. That's the maximum I can produce considering I can only allocate 3-4 days a month to this business.
