Did anyone notice the cat (a featured image) has a model release attached?  I wonder why iofoto attached one.  Maybe he/she is a celebrity cat and I just don't recognize him.  Here is the link http://www.shutterstock.com/pic-2832570.html

it doesn't have to be a celebrity feline, like a celebrity dog such as rin tin tin or lassie. it could be a contest winner . and getting a model release will protect the photographer for sure. lucky iofoto.

Technically, it's not a Model Release from the cat, since animals aren't legal entities, but it's a Property Release from the owner.

This makes sense now.  Thanks guys.

Correct, we have a release from the owners on all animals we photograph. Maybe we're "old school" but having a release can only add value to the image.

It also protect the photographer in the event that the owner(s) find the pet's likeness(e) being used in less flattering situation. eg. "arghh, how can you let my purina cat chow poster child be used as "the stray cat that chased the rat which killed the bat which had rabies !"
