?  What's wrong with those search results, Adlai Stevenson appears to have A politician, and it's a possibly a popular name, given the diverse hits, although it might have been the same Adlai Stevenson who did all those things, I didn't click on any of the hits...

I think this is a hangover from the iStock's great leap forward of a year and a bit ago. (Boy! And what an improvement! It was so amazingly cool you could see your breath on site.   :)  )

At that time, without warning anybody, they suddenly changed their whole keywording system into one using 'tags' instead of the keywords that the owner of any picture had entered.

And, to get over the problem of all the existing images that had already been carefully (?) keyworded by the author, they set up an automated system to change those keywords into their new 'tags'.

I'm not sure how intelligent the programmers who set up that circus were, but it gave rise to some bizarre results.

I suffered along with many others. Several of my images ... a picture of a house ... three or four pictures of an older model I was using ... and some pictures of fruit ... all suddenly acquired the keyword 'anus'.

We poor photogs were supposed to sort out the resulting mess by 'disambiguating' our images. Some of us are still doing it. (And isn't it fun.)

I would guess the owners of the photographs that come up in this search haven't got around to disambiguating them yet.

"...nothing wrong..."????? These posters must have drank the IS kool-aid.

Bateleur is right.

Adlai Stevenson was a nobody who lost 2 presidential elections in landslides 50 years ago. He is long dead and has a few schools in Illinois and a section of I-55 named after him. Only a tiny, tiny few of those images on SS have anything to do with Adlai Stevenson or the things named after him.

I did the search for Adlai Stevenson on SS and got 2 hits. IS shows 6628 hits!!! Nothing wrong with IS???

That's the old "Travis Burt" problem - this was AFAIR the first name mysteriously appearing in the keyword lists of many pictures.

The problem behind this is probably the import of Getty's "controlled vocabulary" dictionary - a list of tags which was created for the purposes of Getty, including tags for editorial shots and therefore containing names of e.g. politicians.

And it's particulary funny that though you are not allowed to use any brand names as keywords on istockphoto there are tons of brand names in the "controlled vocabulary" - happily used by new contributors who are not yet really familiar with istockphoto's rules for keywording ... :D

IMO the idea of the CV system is the best thing since bread in slices (tagging, sorting and correct multilingual translations, unlike the hillarious efforts of automatic translations on other sides), but the implementation and extention of the CV was and is just pain in the a...

well - IS continues to amaze me :)

the new category system... thought i'd try it for a search - so i did this:
Search Results : People > Number of People > Group Of People > Clique
80% of the shots are computer mice or keyboards - "Click"

maybe that's why my sales are down 60% from my high there 4 months ago.
