I don't know that Getty is requiring a higher level of quality for images submitted to Moment that are produced on a DSLR than those produced with an iPhone.

Are the editorial requests for 'hot news' or secondary editorial which don't need to be uploaded instantaneously? If the former, fair enough, an app to get images up quickly is needed. If the latter, why not make the request more open, utilising normal upload channels?
BTW, I replied to the invitation email asking when this would be available to android users; but I should have asked the 'why not normal channels for secondary editorial?' question too.

The editorial requests have been for both hot news and more general topics. For example, there was a request for photos of flooding in the U.K. during recent storms. A more general "unhot" editorial example is the request for unreleased photos of U.S. suburban homes. They are being classified as editorial.

Thanks, that is secondary editorial, but why can't they be taken with any device and uploaded via the usual channels? (I'm not expecting 'you' to answer, btw!)

They could and still do use regular channels but I think they must view this another use of current technology. It sure grabs my attention when I get a push notification on my phone that Getty is looking for a certain type of image. I just don't go to their normal "needs lists" very often. Also, a lot of their requests are time limited, e.g. Mardi Gras or Carnival images.

Really? Customers have specifically just said "We need images shot on a mobile phone"? Just that? Why would they say just that?

Good way to get designated images. Hey isn't that what Scoopshot was doing? They would say what's needed and people would go out and shoot it, or send up what they had?

Alamy is jumping in and it's the wave for this year. Clashot, FOAP. Everyone wants to have phone photos. "this too shall pass"

Getty wants a piece of that pie.

Because the discussion had gone into red flags and accusing Alamy of the one marking messages down. Not because of questions about cameras and devices.

Blog answer: "iPhone photos only please

We’ve seen some images coming through via Stockimo that aren’t shot on phones. We set up Stockimo to source and collect iPhone photos so we’ll be rejecting pictures that aren’t shot on a phone. Sorry, but if we are to package and promote the collection as shot on phones we need to be confident about the product."

And: "Creative or Editorial?

Stockimo is for users to ‘Cash in on their creativity’ we want cool, creative photos, shot with the more conceptual requirements of design and advertising in mind. However we will also shortly be adding a feature where users can submit News pictures via the app. So if your images are more Editorial in nature you may want to hold off for that feature."

I will admit that Alamy has not given clear standards or indications of much of this, and mixed messages. People are getting things accepted from iPads, 3Gs, 4, 4s and 5.

But they locked the thread because it had gone off track into arguing about Red Flags. Not cameras or devices.

ps No Android App. just like Getty. Only the chosen ones can upload at this point.
