500+ file deactivated.

Once upon a time, I felt so proud receiving "Stockphoto: acceptance notice..." emails.

Today, I am much prouder seeing "iStockphoto Deactivation Notice:.." emails. Yep 500+ times more prouder of being me.

I only had 26 files left as of today but I've deactivated 20 of them leaving only a few images I don't really care about until last payout.

Don't forget that Getty has started uploading thousands of their clipart.com images to Istock in order to get them through to Thinkstock. With all this going on I would think it a bit difficult to estimate the totals as we don't know how many cliparts are in the waiting approval queue or in the total files number

Aren't files are just likely, maybe more likely, to get out "into the wild" by being download from websites where they are in use and can be found via search. Or from sites which earn advertising revenue by redistributing for 'free' copyrighted content bought from subscription sites.

I think it's the sheer volume of Google Drive users, plus the appearance of legitimacy (the vague statement that commercial use is OK), that makes the Google Drive situation much worse than the person who knows their taking something they don't have the rights to use

I respectfully disagree. Given that you say you are specifically worried about home and family content being misused. It seems to me that someone looking for content to potentially misuse is more likely to be searching torrents and piracy sites which likely have the complete selection. Or just searching the web for content already in use. Rather than the relatively limited selection at Google Drive.

But please don't misunderstand me. I agree that Google Drive definitely raises new potential issues. At face value it looks like too much is being given up. But I guess we wait to see.

I know that this goes against the grain. I hope alternative opinions are still allowed. But I just cannot see that Google Drive makes it any more likely that an RF image is going to be misused. Especially if the images is already at multiple sites and all over the web.

Selling content too cheap is the issue IMO.

Images from the Getty mother ship aren't priced cheap - at least not IMO given the rights granted. And those images got caught up in this deal - Blend may have been asked which ones but some of the other agencies that distribute through Getty weren't (based on an e-mail exchange with one of them).

I think the big issue is not having the choice about what price and what licensing options. If you want to charge $5,000 for the license I'm willing to grant for my images for $30 - because you have high production costs and I have very low ones, or because you have a cast and the NY Stock exchange and I have an orange slice - that doesn't seem to be a problem to me.

When Getty decides to give your NY Stock exchange image to Google and (a) give you no say in the matter and (b) give you $12 in compensation, that, IMO, is a big problem

Think this covers all the posts - deactivated one-third of my tiny port in solidarity - only 15 images - will do the rest when I make my next payout - figured if I did any more it might be 2014 before I collect. Reason given "Google deal protest" in case they're wondering. Viv la resistance!

I deleted over 100 - lost count. Basically about 20% of my port. One thing which became abundantly clear was that I have taken some truly awful photos over the years.

I am leaning toward closing the account in the next few months but I want to wait a bit to see if there is any response at all. I don't anticipate any changes from iS/Getty.

My 500 best sellers was already deleted 15 days ago. Now I've deleted all files with at least one download, so in total around 2000 photos. For now I'm leaving the last 900 with no download, my videos and my musics... just to play a little bit with the site before deleting everything.
