Title: Gone exclusive
Post by: ichiro17 on May 19, 2009, 10:44
So I'm finally exclusive, and so far so good.  I'm just announcing that because I will most likely not participate as much in the forums, I'd rather work on my skills and upload more often.  Also I'd like to focus more time managing my portfolio, adding UBB links and stuff like that.

I will pop in from time to time, just didn't want to alarm anyone that I'm missing :P not that anyone would notice anyways :)

After being in this game for about 5 years, I think I'm just about ready to go exclusive too... I'm in SS and DT, but the money they bring in is a small percentage of what I make at IS...

exclusivity is an interesting and generally rewarding adventure. congratulations on your decision, but also give yourself a reality check once in a while too. your images are all in one place so be sure to accept the ups and downs, and keep your eye on the bigger picture.

Good luck with it. I hope to be joining you soon (currently no 222). I'm working on adding vectors and 3D to my arsenal for diversity. Should be there by the time I reach 250.

Thanks for moving out from our field of interest and our income source... I hope many others will become iStock exclusives so we can earn more ;-)

Good Luck there!

Congrats, Istock is the best place to be, if you are exclusive. In these times of agencies fighting for cents with subs programs, IS offers the best deal and a devent sub program, Being exclusive you can sell your pics for a resonable price and at a reasonable comission (being Diamond). Right now, I don't see another site worth for itself, besides, maybe, Veer.

Another thing is the photos.com deal. Well, at least there's and opt-out.

Can you keep your images on StockXpert, since they belong to IS now?

Glad you made a decision that you are happy with!

I've been sitting on the fence for a long time, but I think I will join you soon. I'm just waiting for a couple hundred more down loads and then I will be silver, which will make it worth it more.

Good question regarding StockXpert and iStock for exclusives. Anyone have an answer yet?

That would be terrific!

Can you keep your images on StockXpert now since they belong to IS now?

StockXpert and IS are two separate businesses that belong to Getty.

Yes but if they make IS exclusives available also on StockXpert I think more people will consider going exclusive as it is going to be a bigger market.

And if they buy only one more site and include that to exclusivity the other sites would be in trouble because many contributors will go exclusive considering there will be a good pay-rise on IS as well.

Currently if a non-exclusive is making let's say;

%40 of his income on IS and %60 on others combined, and chooses exclusivity; the situation for him/her will not be so great.

But if StockXpert and another site is included as a new market for istock exclusives then exclusivity may well generate more income than being a non-exclusive; and it could be worth to take the risk.

I hope that for you, too. Because apparently your images aren't good enough to make it a competitive field.

Istock exclusives on StockXpert? Come on... I think I will pull out my portfolio from there right the moment that happen. And, start submitting even more to Corbis and Fotosearch ;-)

[edit] that was a joke of course ;-)

But, also they should accept all images of non-exclusives from StockXpert to iStock then ;-)

LOL... My account says different things... Competitive in your knowing is different market and buyers in my knowing of business... Don't forget that I don't make top images to sell as hot cakes - I make useful images for specific needs of buyers! My nitche is not yet formed (at least by looking in my portfolio), but my images can be used on many ways for many purposes. No, I don't sell much on subs, but I sell great on single and extended licence markets ;-)

At last - you can't buy my image print it and see errors in colors like with some other authors images... I do it almost all print ready (except obvious RGB)! That is why my vectors look a bit washed out... But, you have one credit or two, pick one of that and print it...

So, my portfolio has less sales - it is true - but my RPI is quite high comparing to others  and tweaked to that way it has sales on any significant agency ;-)

And yes - my images are a bit more mid-stock than microstock ;-)

Maybe, but this is not like that now.  An IS exclusive can only have his RF images in IS.
