I saw this from a link on dpchallenge.  An interesting look at the industry thanks to google trends

That is interesting, as much for the cities, languages and countries that are * the general trend as for the overall IS, up, Getty down. The matching downward slopes for 2008 would seem to be a result of a crappy economy. There appear to be some growth opportunities for IS in trying to get the blue bar longer in New York, India, Mexico, etc.

What exactly are they counting in that graph?  Searches, hits, links?

It looks like traffic to those websites... If you really want to see something interesting add Shutterstock to the mix. istock is trending down since this Fall, Getty has been trending down for years. Shutterstock has remained stable and trending slightly upwards. I was thinking about going exclusive at IS, but this trend looks awful... Need to upload more to SS!

I find the traffic from the different regions interesting, especially the amount coming from Ireland and India.

The traffic rank from the different regions becomes even more interesting when you change the rank order in the drop down menu to gettyimages or shutterstock.

I believe it is search traffic.
