Title: MSG Compare
Post by: CofkoCof on October 03, 2008, 00:13
Today I was reading IS forums more thoroughly and found another interesting site:
http://apps.myersonphoto.com

It's not a scam, you can see it on the forums that many people use it. Especially for the "Race to gold/silver,..." statistics:
http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=65435&page=1
http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=46068&page=1

Basicly it tracks the number of downloads and uploads every member of the group had in a certain period of time (the author of the group can reset the counters). I created a MSG group which can be visible only to the people that are in it. So if you would like to compare yourself to other MSG members post your username in this topic (you can also PM me if you don't want to reveal in it public). ATM only me and Leaf (sry didn't remember any other user :D) are in it, but hopefully more will join.

No, it's not a scam.  ;D This is one of several very useful tools developed by Ethan Myerson prior to his becoming an admin at istock.

I have added all of you (including bitter and nosaya :D)

Categories:
Baseline downloads: downloads since the comparison started
Current downloads: no need to explain this one :D
Delta downloads: how many downloads did a person have, since the comparison started
.... same for the uploads

Day: how many days has a user been in the group.

I'll restart the counter in a day or two so that stats will be based on the same number of days for everyone.

I added you to the group. If you wish you can risk it and login and if not at least we'll see how many downloads do you get :D

Added all of you (I think). 10 people in the group atm. Leaf leads with 10 downloads :D

PS: Maybe I should just add everyone that has IS link setup in their profile. Do you think they would object?
Title: Re: MSG Compare
Post by: CvanDijk on October 03, 2008, 17:03
I think it's okey to put everybody in the group who gave his/her link here on MSG. Otherwise they wouldn't have given it here if it was some kind of secret. And if someone has a problem with it, you can always remove that person.

Is user Bittersweet really Bitter on Istock? I thought I read in another post that he's not, but maybe I didn;t understand it right

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. Everyone can do their own data mining by going to your profile and writting down the numbers. I'll add people when I see them post some new replies on the forums, but if you want to be added immidiately reply to this topic.

EDIT: Leaf maybe you could make this topic sticky?

It  really makes no difference - anybody can create own list and add anybody, so if one shares IS login - it is available.
BTW, if you as paranoid as I am about sharing your passwords, you can create a dummy IS account, login to the site and create your own list

As I understand it, Bitter on iStock is Bruce Livingstone, the founder. Dunno why he calls himself 'bitter'. I'd be anything but bitter if I'd created a company like that and sold it to Getty.

The link is on top of the page. You have to use IS login (because group is visible only to group members). But if you as paranoid as UncleGene you can create new IS account and go check some of the publicly available groups (mostly race to silver/gold/diamond/ best illustrators,...).

True, and belive me many peple have their own groups, I've seen them.

PS: 15 people now. Stats refresh when IS download stats refresh (once a day). So tomorrow we should see a few numbers in there. I think I won't reset it now, maybe at the end of the month?

I wouldn't dream of going exclusive there when a best match change can cut sales so much.  I much prefer the way DT do it.  They change their search but my sales still keep going up.  Why can't istock do that  ::)

It may provide a really interesting data. In 5 days we got average 20 Dl from 5 UL :-) Larger portfolio definitively helps but you might have 22 DL/I or 6  DL/I ;-) It's hard to see any numbers if portfolio is below 200 images with only two exceptions to this rule.

25 people already, it's getting crowded :D

I also find the stats interesting. Especially because there are some really different portfolios in there (old, new, large, small,...). I never kept track of my portfolio like this, but I already see that my biggest problem is portfolio size. Will try to increase it during winter when I'll have more time.

The IS login is being used through iStock's API which allows third-party developers to come up with helpful tools such as DeepMeta and a bunch of others. It does not allow the third party to collect or observe your log-in information. You can read more about it here: http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=46006&page=1 (http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=46006&page=1) and see the full list of available apps in that same forum.

And I am truly sorry for the confusion that my unfortunate selection of username has caused. Take off your crazy-cap and think about whether Bitter himself would have the time or inclination to post the trivial things that I do.  ;D

Found the below on the iStock forums -- should have looked there first!

...A recent development or two will mean a couple of changes in iStock-Apps.com. Going forward, the Compare, Suggestinator, StatBox, and other assorted istock-apps will be migrated to a new home at apps.myersonphoto.com. I'll try to minimize the downtime during migration, but if you see some wonky behavior in the coming few days, I hope you'll forgive me.

The other change - unrelated to the migration, but occurring at the same time - will be that now I'll have a little more time and bandwidth to devote to creating, maintaining, upgrading and supporting the apps. So all those requests that came in over the past 12 months or so for istock-apps enhancements may actually see the light of day.
