Is it just me, or do most people need a JJRD translation filter? I asked for clarification on a phrase, and he basically says it was clear the first time. I'm afraid to ask again, because I've already been accused today of not being "nice."

JJRD is at his clearest when RogerMexico speaks for him :)

I think that you pointed out something they didn't want to discuss and they are trying to avoid getting drawn in. Unless you want to get banned from the forums, I'd probably leave their non-answer to speak for itself :)

That's why I came here. I wish I would have avoided getting drawn in today, as I have wasted a good two hours of work time. I'm like Charlie Brown with the football still waiting for the "great things planned for vectors" they promised in Sept. 2010

Member Bortonia will be present in Milan. Her presence will be for a good reason. As yet no numbers have been given to how many places are available for photographers/video or indeed illustrators. What i can tell you from my own expierance is everything will become clearer given time. The London Lypse was really well planned and went very well for myself and the majority of people i spoke to at the event and afterwards.
JJRD speaks very clearly IMO and Echodelta did leave wink after her comment to you in the Istock forum.
Keep fighting your corner as i'm sure they are listening !

I personally don't see how a vectorlypse can be profitable for Istock like a regular 'lypse event. With photographers, they know approximately how many images they will get added to the collection. The event will also raise the skill level of a lot of the photographers which will add more high quality images in the future.

With us vectorians, especially more established ones, we might benefit from some tricks and tips or workflow ideas but how many images will be added to the collection from the vectorlypse? Also, I'm not going to magically draw as well as someone like vectorbomb after a few days and I'm not likely to change my style either.

I would love to meet other vector artists but everything is about the bottom line at Istock now and we just aren't profitable for them like Vetta photographers.

So, I think JJRD was saying that Bortonia, head of Illustration, will be there and we still care about you illustrators. :-\ It doesn't answer your question but is a factual statement.

You make a good point that it's all about the bottom line. It wasn't always thus.

JJRD's comment:

"with bortonia coming to Milan, we never stated that the vector angle of the iStockalypse would be contributor centric."

This is my attempt at translation:

with bortonia coming to Milan, = Adverbial clause indicating that related dependent clause is forthcoming, however it is unrelated to the second clause. This is like saying, "With the high cost of travel this summer, I never said I liked that painting." It is only meant to feign concern for vectors by name-dropping the head of Illustration.

we never stated that the vector angle of the iStockalypse would be contributor centric. = Basically a preemptive escape valve to say, "Hey, we never promised there would be anything for illustrators to do here, should you show up and expect something."

In other words, "Just because bortonia will be in Milan, doesn't mean that there will be much focus on vector contributors, because vector attendees won't be producing any work we can license."

Or something like that.

that is how I interpret it.

I interpreted his comments in the illustration forum to mean that Milan would be focusing on the marketing side of vectors.  But JRRD made it very clear in the other thread exactly what he thinks of vector artists getting together:

"The idea of a ''vectorcentric iStockalypse'' has indeed been attempted in the past (Melbourne) & has proven not to be the appropriate formula for that file type. "

Which presumably was an instruction to Jen (Bortonia) to get her head in and stop being publicly enthusiastic about vectorlypses. She (as her posts in the illustration forum make clear) and all the other attendees in the vectorlypse in Melbourne that I spoke to while I was there thought it was really useful - I certainly found it to be so. So presumably istock finds it to be too costly to devote resources to what they see as a second tier (at best) class of assets.

We can't be expected to behave at some conference. If they let us out of our cages, we might go crazy. It would be like a cross between band camp and some sort of Bacchanalian festival.  ;D

It's the only way to deal with istock - and in particular their treatment of vector contributor.

So you think there's no big vector announcement coming?  ;)

Sounds to me like they are saying bortonia is more or less getting a vacation in Milan on our dime.
