Title: I have managed to get through 90 days without a sale ...
Post by: michealo on March 31, 2008, 06:07
I have managed to get through 90 days without a sale on Luckyoliver. That is with a portfolio of 147 images

Can anyone better that!?

I would consider you a winner if you have a large port and no sales or a similar port size and a longer dry patch.

That's not encouraging.

I'm on about 70 days with 41 images online.  Waiting for them to re-review a batch of 35 images.

No sales, 50 odd views.

So have I. No sales in 2k8 so far! I have about 500 pictures there. I am going to give them up as a bad job unless they manage to sell something by the end of April.

I heard such good things about them too?

LuckyOliver are a young agency relative to the ones they're often compared to, so I'm never disappointed with my earnings there, no matter how low. There are many agencies where you could contribute your photos and experience zero sales.

I know other contributors reach payout at LuckyOliver every month, so when I see my low earnings it's my portfolio that I look to for answers.

Days since last sale: 1  (not that I sell a photo there every day)

I have managed to get through 90 days without a sale on Luckyoliver...

And so my refusal to sign up with LO continues...

Good things? Really? Where and what?

I've read almost nothing but bad things about LO. So many bad things that unless there's some sort of sea change, I can't see it as a worthwhile agency.

I have a similar performance in CS.  Last time I checked, I had no sales for 3 months, with 70 images online.  I had 5 (I think) in LO in March with a portfolio of around 350-400.

March sales rock!!NOT. 2 sales so far with portfolio over 1300 images :) (or it is just my images which sucks).

Featurepics, mostphotos, snapvillage (with 40 images) and several other low earners out sells LO big time :). 29 more images to go for side sales (or what was it called). I hope it helps a bit.

I've had 19 sales this year, worth $48.70 ($2.56 per download). Not earth-shattering, but if it stays at around $200 per year, I'm reasonably happy. I've also had one $160 payout and have $60-odd in "the Bank".

I've got around 800 images there, but the bulk are from my early "forays" into photography, so many are rather amateurish. The site is a slow earner, but somehow I like it there.

Well, you know i'm an LO fanboy (and forum moderator) so I'm biased :)

But, there's good news about LO all around. Here's a chart comparing traffic (http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details/luckyoliver.com?site0=luckyoliver.com&site1=featurepics.com&site2=albumo.com&site3=snapvillage.com&y=p&z=3&h=300&w=610&u%5B%5D=luckyoliver.com&u%5B%5D=featurepics.com&u%5B%5D=albumo.com&u%5B%5D=snapvillage.com&x=2008-03-31T19%3A01%3A34.000Z&check=www.alexa.com&signature=QdNFZ0uc8jnMQXt6e5hHIMPqjbY%3D&range=1y&size=Medium) for LO against some of the other smaller sites like featurepics and albumo etc...

Granted, LO isn't busting straight up like I'd love to see it do, but it is still beating some of the other sites in traffic etc.

Hope that helps

LO since 9/31/06
Only   56 DL's for $72.20  (inc  1 EL and a buck for a referal)
38296 views
although everything I've put on in the last month or two still only has 0, 1 or 2 views. ?????????  I wonder how that works. daily my views climb, but nothing on anything recently uploaded.
406 pix
126 comments given
93 comments recvd
2 odditorriums

only 4 sales in 2008,  none in 42 days.

I like the site, I had high hopes for LO back in 8/06 (and I still do).   I'll still hang in there, but uploading for no views isn't smart. I've officially stopped uploading now after a year and a half.  I'll let what is there ride and hope for the best. If it starts to pick up, I'll have hundreds more  to upload.   8)=tom

BTW to those that follow such things, Mitch and I have signed a peace accord.  :)

I've had 8 sales there totalling $7.20 (75 images and 2308 views) since I joined a year ago. I haven't sold anything there since mid-December. I haven't uploaded anything there in several months, because sales were just tooo sloooow. If things pick up there, I might submit more.. I'm just going to wait and see.

Anymore, it's not even worth logging in to see if I've had a sale, let alone upload more with my super-slow connection.  :P

The last month I have had no problems logging in to LO.  No problem today and I have had 2 sales, so it isn't just me.

I have made a lot more with LO that FP or SV so far and it might be worth people who make more than me on other sites uploading there.  I don't understand all the negativity.  istock took years to get going and they had no microstock competition.  LO are doing reasonably well considering they have a lot of competitors.

All joking aside, Tom, please do feel free to post your stats and comments. My stats aren't so great right now on LO either and i would love it to improve. I'm waiting just like everyone else... only difference for me is that I'm married to LO because I'm the moderator :)

By the way - i'm sorry i didn't reply to your PM... tho i really did appreciate the kind words and the apology! I owe ya.

I don't understand all the negativity.

The negativity may partly be due to the fact that, while most agencies are most agencies are either good or bad with some individual variations, LO varies a lot. For some, it's just a "normal" slow site, but for others, it doesn't seem to move at all. I've been there for nearly a year and a half now, and with a portfolio of 572 images, I've made an astonishing 11 or 12 dollars.

Even stranger than that: I have only 1955 views in total, while at SV, where I've just been a little over 6 months, that's the number of views I've had on my top 25 or 30 images combined. Considering the fact that SV isn't a fast mover either, this puts LO in a rather strange light: why on earth is my portfolio nearly invisible at LO?

That is strange.  I have 27,000 views and 146 downloads.  Did you upload them all in one go?  Perhaps uploading more will kick start the views.  It is the easiest site I upload to.  I did notice you don't have many keywords on some of your photos.

That's not encouraging.

I'm on about 70 days with 41 images online.  Waiting for them to re-review a batch of 35 images.

No sales, 50 odd views.

Don't hold your breath.  I hate to be negative, but the truth is they have produced only 7 total sales over 7 months for my portfolio of 250-odd.  I make more per day on average with Shutterstock, than I have made TOTAL in 7 months with Lucky Oliver.  That is no exaggeration Seren.  The statistical truth boggles my mind.

Bryan seems like a smart guy.  They have wonderful reviews, with real feedback.  I respect Mitch's opinion when he sticks up for Lucky Oliver.  But whatever the reason, it clearly isn't working for most of us.  Plenty of photographers a lot smarter than me have already given up and left LO.  It's just a matter of time before I give up too.

But hey, at this rate I'll make the $25 payout in 5 years, so I should press on!  ;D

One thing contributors need to understand is that a lot of those "views" are just other contributors looking at your portfolio.  Especially when I post a message on their boards, I immediately get a ton of views.  How many customers are actually viewing portfolios is debatable, but the lack of sales suggests not many.

I'd say LO has been a major disappointment. Along with Snapv.

On LO I average 1.5 views per month on each of my 209 images, with 4.8 downloads per month. However no dls for nearly a month.

Either their marketing really sucks or their buyers are not looking for my images that are selling elsewhere. I guess we just plod ahead and put our time in where it seems to be more profitable.

The newest site that is showing promise -- at least with the way they are getting things right site-wise -- is Yay Micro. I guess hope is what some of us have in abundance.

I think new sites need to keep a balance between buyers and contributors.  Albumo attracted lots of us but they have failed to get enough buyers to keep us happy.  It is a similar story with LO and FP.  Will Yaymicro be any different?

Wow. A month ago, I decided to request a payment even though it was only $30 since the site had been so flaky. Actually forgot about it until today when it finally got paid.

I think what little infrastructure they had is dwindling.

About the only consistent driver of buyers to micro seems to me to be their advertising spending. All the big 6 on the right are consistent large scale advertising buyers. Maybe it's just me but I have never seen any of the others in any of the publications that I read except for Snapvillage who just started advertising last month.

There's a direct correlation in my opinion between traditional ad budgets and money in our pockets. Those are the sites that are reeling in the buyers, including new customers to micro, month after month. The other sites are scurrying around after the crumbs.

I think we should demand of all the new wanna-be micro sites that they reveal some hard promotional ad dollars they are committing. We're investing our time so they should come clean with some hard reasons for us to hit that upload button.

First sale 2/2/08
Second sale 2/20/08

Wanted to hit a payout, with the new Valentine $1 payouts every February, but still sitting at the beginning of April with just those 2 sales, my piggy sitting at $ 0.90.

Do I hate LO?  Hardly.  In fact, everyone who asks me how to start up, I send them there.  Of course, I tell them not to expect sales. Why lie?  But, I DO tell them to get active in the Odd, and tell them if they have a question, ask.  When we first started, we got rejected at two other sites and LO.  The other sites sent back the usual, you know, either over/under exposed, lighting either washed out or too dark, too much noise, or too much artifacting... i mean, what is artifacting?? And when I sent the review team an email back, it got bounced and I was told to submit questions to the forums.

I just so happened to be online when LO sent the 3 toss review the first time, we read it, didn't understand it, and sent them back a question.  What we got back was a very friendly, very encouraging, very DETAILED explaination WITH the answer on how to correct it. We sent a few more letters back and forth, and we were the first 3 toss approval for 2008.

It was this very personal, very inviting, very encouraging attitude that kept us going, and we will always have a soft spot in our hearts for LO.

We aren't members of LO for sales, we're there for the community.
