Congrat's!!!

How far from payout are you.  Has anyone actually had a payout yet.

RANT WARNING!!!: I hope they aren't spending all our commission  :o or if they are, that they are putting it into advertising.  Google may be one thing but designers dont look for images on google! and they are the ones with the money.

i am far from payout. All the photos i have sold since i joined in sept last year is less than half of what i got from this single ELS. I can count with my fingers the numbers of total photos i have sold so far at LO.

Congratulations on the sale!

In regard to whether anyone is getting payouts, the answer is yes. Please go back and read Bryan's blog post:

Granted LO isn't in the top 5 yet... but patience Grasshopper (reference to old American TV show heehee)

am i the only one that thinks bryan is very vague ???
who were the two photographers?
what do buyers actually buy and have any sales actually come from the outside or is everyone still using their tokens left over from uploading....

unfortunately, to me LO is looking more and more like a circus, all smoke and mirrors...

last time i checked google for "stock photos" LO was nowhere to be found.
did a search on my name and LO did show up....I am in it for the money, not the vanity.
I will hang in there for a while but dont think I will be uploading more until the sales are actually there....not sure i like the idea of them telling everyone they can sell our stuff on zazzle either.

but hey thats just my gut feeling.....

congrats on the sale!
may you have the next payout!

Some people (who are at LO) get payouts in less than a week at some sites.  So the fact they have paid out to two isn't anything special.  Others are waiting for Paypal but he makes no mention that they are actually working on it.  It isn't as if setting up a paypal account is difficult.

I am still there and haven't lost my patience yet but we can only do so much for no reward.

Peiling,

Congratulations.  Certainly this was exciting news.

And I was already happy that I sold one image there today, making 30c!  ;)

Xenia,

Are these your first submissions?  Because lately reviews have normally not taken more than two days (they used to be faster).

I had a look at the LO web site and browsed around.

I noticed the 'statistics' page - top keywords, images etc.  This page has not been updated since November.  Interestingly it still shows the most used keyword as 'christmas'.......

Do I want to be associated with an agency that cannot be bothered to supply realistic and up-to-date information?

No.

.......did a search on my name and LO did show up....I am in it for the money, not the vanity.
....not sure i like the idea of them telling everyone they can sell our stuff on zazzle either.

Name-wise, some days I'll come up with a dozen or more LO hits on Google.  I also come up on Alta vista, MSN, Dogpile, Yahoo  and others with multiple hits. Also, multiple hits when I 'google' the name of a picture....    But then again, I get hits on my name for BigStock, DT, FT and StockXpert.    Sadly, I get the most hits on my name for LO, but no sales, just views racking up.
I'm still hoping things will break loose soon at LO.  The bulk of  what I have at LO is selling like crazy at SS and others, so  I kind of  ..dont' think it's me or my work.

Void --- what's this  Zazzle thing?   I must have missed something!! Was this on the blog or... where'd did you get that info. PLEASE,  fill me in.

Well that'll teach me to read the fine print with more attention!!
My wife has a Zazzle site where she sells all those products with her and my pix attached. Many of those pix on LO
That's just great...  now someone can pick up one of my pix, paste it on a t-shirt and compete against me with my own picture! And all I get is $25... and the guy could sell a gazillion t-shirts?
Speaking of pictures,  what's wrong with this one.  I have to rethink this stuff.        ???  -tom

On the other hand... with only 7 sales since September, I guess I don't have too much to worry about anyway.....  funny, the stinken pictures sell well on my wife's t-shirts for $20, but I can't sell 'em for 33 cents...                 :P go figure.

Xenia - I looked at your portfolio on LO.  Many very marketable and commercial images there.  Are you selling through the other agencies?  What are your experiences at, say, SS and IS with those images?

Sales are really slow for me (15 so far), but the site is very new, so I keep confidence on them.

LO is one of the two "up and coming" sites I'm with. I've been with them for 2 weeks with about 400 photos and got 2 30 cent sales. It's not heaven, but still better than featurepics, where I have had the same amount of photos online for twice the time without any sales.

This is why I have included Lucky Oliver into my Microstock Monitor Software (see my signature and the Microstock Monitor board in the Software area). I also have faith in them. Their upload process is very smooth.

The only thing I do hope that they will provide paypal for comission payments soon (well, or not so soon, depending on my sales :-D).

All the best,
Michael

I have no intention of pulling out of LO.  I like the site, bryan and the admins are helpful and very supportive.  I'm hoping to eventually see sales like I experience eslewhere..
The Zazzle thing is a personal matter.  I am literally competing with myself when someone else on Zazzle sells a tee with my picture on it. I'd hate to opt-out on EL for that reason alone... but...
On the other hand, until I see one of my pix there, I suppose I'll stick with it in the hopes someone will buy a legitimate El someday...   Kind of like going to Vegas... big gamble.  8)  -tom

I could imagine that the main target of LO is/was to sell the site right from the beginning (nothing wrong about that) . They have a low commission-rate, a modern up-to-date design etc that would really fit in a plan like this. For a bigger company (like corbis) it would probalby still be cheaper to buy a site than build from the scratch. And a buy like this would be a big advertisment for any site (just look at the deal IS-Getty) so they could sell right from the beginning.
Disclaimer: Again this is just my imagination :D

i think its all a matter of trusting that people are good and morally upright. Of course there are always black sheeps around.

I keep an excel spreadsheet of my ELS photo download. When a photo gets downloaded I write the name, date, photo site, photo id etc that was downloaded. Should at any point in time there are issues, I will know whether the person has bought the legal rights to use it.

For Zazzle etc, I think we all try the various methods to sell in places like these and for most part sales are not good. You never know which one is a hit. If someone sells your pic and its successfull...hahah..maybe its time u sell it too????

Is anyone else starting to think there is a lot of hot air with the Lucky Oliver? All the wonderful things, all the growing sales... just no one's really seeing it, eh? I'm standing at $50 growing at about a $1-$2 a week. That's going to get me a payout by autumn. Not impressive.

Anyways... still got tons of tokens to spend ;), you guys?
Title: Re: My First Extended License Sale At Lucky Oliver!!!!
Post by: Void on February 20, 2007, 14:09
hey scubabartek!
I donated all my tokens to this site by downloading Leaf's pics!
I am sure it has gotten him closer to a pay out.

As for me, I deleted my best from my portfolio there recently, keeping it alive just in case something happens, if not it can just fade away.

I wonder why there is no actual forum there or a page of the best sellers,
yeah we did get a
"look at what got downloaded today" page,
showing us only 25.
If memory serves correctly, on the second day of this new page, the bottom three images seem to have been carried over from the day before.... thats no too many sales.....and I just cant help but wonder how many sales are still being done with the tokens thay gave us in the beginning....

We'll get the answer very soon, when LO will start their marketing outreach in mid-March.  Up till now my understanding is that they were focused on building their library, as well as make sure that everything was working properly on a small level.  The December promo was a huge incentive which attracted some big names.  Now that all the basic functions have been tested through the token use photographers were given and used and probably a few clients, the foundations are well established.

The verdict will come in a few months max.  In the meantime, patience and high expectations for a site whose team is quite inspiring in the way they communicate with their fellow photographers.  I sincerely hope that their strategy is right on schedule.

I'll update everyone here and keep it simple. Talk is great, but actions mean more.  We're dedicated to earning your trust. I appreciate the feedback.

Let me outline a few points:

1. We've known the Zazzle guys from their early beginnings and I talk with their founders on a regular basis. In fact, they messed up one of my orders before a trip and the founder had the shirts delivered personally to my house the next morning before 8am. If there was a problem, it would be resolved immediately. Connections are important.

Our service is really not set-up for someone to resell images at $50 a pop- their service is more geared toward individuals who create products. Our target is more small businesses that need images on packaging or other digital products. I firmly believe the extended license opportunity will benefit our photographers greatly.

2. Collecting thousands of images can be done overnight-building a community of artists however takes time. We want to create opportunity for those that work with us.  We've paced ourselves to win business.  We've tried to set realistic goals for people without setting the wrong impression.

3. "Not impressive." Sure, I understand.  At some point every company has to start from something small. Momentum is the key metric for us right now. All our data points are going up week by week- we try to share pieces of this information.  The intention is not to toot our horn- it's to give Carnies some transparency in the business. It's a difficult balance to share information. Every competitor is looking at what we're doing.

As we expand our presence, we'll try to share more of our activities. In the meantime we're nose down cranking and making LuckyOliver a great place. Thanks for the discussion!

Well Bryan,
one thing I'll give you guys is that at least you answer all the questions that we post and don't keep us in the dark. We're just getting a bit antsy because it has been quite a long time now. Although (and you can take it as a compliment) you and LO remind me a bit of Jeff Bezos and Amazon.com. He was sounding the horn a lot and doing a lot of PR while Amazon.com was languishing in the dumps. And then suddenly it sprung up to become world's number 1 internet retailer.
In the meantime as I mentioned few times before: I'll keep on holding my fingers crossed and keep on uploading. The upload process is a breeze at least. How's the LO shop going Bryan? Remember throwing these ideas to spend our tokens on something?
