Title: What are you thoughts on mobile stock photography?
Post by: seawhisper on September 25, 2015, 04:43
Hi,

I'm wondering what you guys think about mobile stock photography - is it worth time and effort? Has anyone try it? Does anyone buy it? For me it's kind of strange that people might actually buy a cell phone photo when they have a full subject coverage in high quality photos. Not sure about the prices though - maybe it's simply cheaper?
And overally there's this kind of feeling that you "cheat" - no need for expensive equipment, using heavy tripod while taking outside photos, not much need for software and software skills while developing.

What do you think about this branch of stock photograhy?

I've sold a few iPhone photos via DT - I uploaded them for one of their "Assignments" and a couple sell fairly regularly.

I just joined Stokimo (Alamy's iPhone app/site) and Fotolia Instant a couple weeks ago - have a handful of photos on each - no sales yet. I see on the Alamy forum that Stockimo photos are selling for prices that are all over the map - from cheap to decent amounts. That's it for my limited experience, would love to know others' experience. I asked if anyone was on Fotolia Instant here before and got no response - hope you'll learn more.

One of my best selling photos was taken from my mobile. Sometimes the subject matters a lot.

I think the only problem is that a mobile offers less creative freedom. But then a lot depends on the skill of the photographer
