I've heard some people talking about Newdarkroom.com on another forum, but not the other.  I'll see if I can copy/paste the info...

Quote
here percentage is at 20 (scalable up) The minimum photo for sale there is $19.99. The minimum payout is $50, And yes they do use paypal if that was the question.

They do have FTP for uploading.  But that's about all I know.

Think I'll just sit back a bit and check them out for a while, before I upload to them.
Don't want my images stolen like some had on Galastock.

Does their license allow any usage that in most sites would only be allowed in extended licenses?

I won't try them unless there is some good public reviews about them, plus a good chance for their marketing plans to succeed.  Have been burned already...

I decided to give newdarkroom a try.  They have FTP uploading.  Right now, I have the biggest portfolio on the site but haven't sold a single picture.  I took a look through all the contributors on the first 4 pages to see how many sales had occured.  There have only been a total of 8 sales (with 5 of them going to the guy running the site, Devin).  Makes me wonder if any sales have occured at all or if they were just testing the site with those 8 "sales."  Also, I've contacted the "support" team 3 times through the site.  I know they read one of them because they raised my upload quota as I'd asked.  However, they've never actually written back to me or responded to me about any communication.

Hi Guys,

I know a bit. :)

Zymmetrical started off as www.flyerstarter.com.  Flyerstarter was started in 2003 as a graphic-design only agency focused on event/club designs, and it has done very well in that niche.  We were featured in Communication Arts Design Annual last year and we have 10 designs included on the cover DVD of the upcoming MacFormat magazine (www.macformat.co.uk).

In fall 2005 we decided to expand the inventory to general stock subjects, but it became quickly apparent that this departure from our original niche was contrary to presenting a clear idea to first-time visitors.

So, Zymmetrical was born. We relaunched both sites in November 2006, under the same parent system; they are essentially one system with two 'faces'.

The business itself is Flyerstarter Services Ltd., which is a British Columbia, Canada registered incorporation.

As far as references, I would encourage you to register and private message/post in the forums and ask some of the participating artists themselves how they have found Flyerstarter/Zymmetrical to be.

For the pricing, yes I agree it is hard in the 'mid-range' price bracket these days, as there is so much selection available for (queue the cheesy announcers voice) "ONLY ONE DOLLAR!", however the artists on our site can change the price at any time for any file in their Art Manager area from $3 to $100 so it's pretty democractic.

Why should you sell through us?
- friendly, personal support
- free
- 50% commission

Plus we've worked our butts off since June to produce a technically advanced site :)

Any more questions, feel free to ask!

Keith Tuomi

Keith,

I have visited Zymmetrical, but I could not find a FAQ or something with minimum image requirements.

Given that the site covers a very broad price, can you tell us what works there?  I have different portfolios for microstock and macrostock, so it would be interesting to know in which area does you site fit.

Adelaide

Hi Adelaide,

Currently all the art specs are visible on the actual submission pages, which are accessible if you register an Artist's account.

We used to have a public FAQ, which is currently being migrated to our new Wiki at http://www.zymmetrical.com/Info/Wiki/tabid/96/Default.aspx. Within the coming weeks we will hopefully have all these types of questions answered in the public area - it's been extremely busy bug-hunting since the launch so some of our content areas are lagging a bit behind.

To answer your question, here are the specs for photos.

File format: JPEG (.JPG or .JPEG file extensions)
Minimum file size: 500 kilobytes
Maximum file size: 100 megabytes
Minimum dimensions: 640 pixels (Height or Width)
Minimum resolution: 180 dpi

For your earlier question about the licensing, no, we have on single license model and that is the normal 'one-time' use, no resale. The complete usage terms can be found here: http://www.zymmetrical.com/Legal/tabid/112/Default.aspx

Cheers,
Keith

Just to follow up more on your question of macrostock vs microstock:

Artist's can adjust their own prices in realtime, as mentioned, so if you want to 'macro-fy' your inventory, it's your choice.
