I had uploaded some images some time ago and they were accepted.
Then, some time later, I decided to upload more, but these have been pending for months.
So I wrote them several times, to try to understand what the situation was, but I never got any answer.

Are they still alive?

I closed my account with them a long time ago. They never replayed back to e-mails and were not professional at all.

I've got a few  pictures sitting there as an experiment. Not had a sale or heard a squeak for months. I don't think they are going knock shutterstock off their perch just yet.

Is there a way to delete the images before to close the account?
At this point I really don't trust them.

@Chichikov Every agency will have backups of your images.

Sinkers,  https://neironix.io/cryptocurrency/wemark

Wemark price - Last price:
1 WMK = 0$
0.0000%
0.00000000 BTC

Lets see, 85% of nothing = nothing?  ;D

Hi,

We have an important update to share.

Two years ago we started an incredible journey, aiming to help talented photographers to reclaim their lost revenue and power. We had a clear vision and exciting plans to completely change the way content is licensed and paid for. We had an ambitious goal, and believing a change is inevitable, we decided to take this challenge.

We launched our marketplace early this year, with a fast-growing community of experienced photographers. We released two major product updates since then, including smart search filters, credit card payments, advanced content review system to onboard creators in scale, and lots of improvements in user experience.

Unfortunately - all of this wasnt enough. As a result of the cryptocurrency market crash last year and a sequence of unfortunate events beyond our control, the USD value of the funds we raised, as part of our token sale, has been slashed in front of our eyes, eventually leaving the company with no resources.

Today, we regret to announce that Wemark is shutting down.

New purchases and image uploads will be now disabled until the platform will eventually shut down completely.

Read more in our official announcement here:
https://medium.com/wemark-stories/wemark-is-shutting-down-4348e41340e

Despite all our efforts and some advanced processes with several investors, we couldnt raise the additional funding required to operate the company and keep growing.

This is undoubtedly an extremely sad day for us. The decision to shut down the platform was probably the hardest we have ever made. If we believed theres anything we could do to change this, we would have done it in a heartbeat.

Despite the way it ends, we couldnt be more grateful for the trust and support we received from you. We never took it for granted, and weve fought hard and given everything to end this journey in a completely different way.

We know that youve spent considerable time in setting up your Wemark account and uploaded your content. Were truly sorry thats the way it ends.

Yours,
Tai and Pavel,
Wemarks founders.

That is the only real thing we earned with this virtual currency thing: actually ... nothing! Now, let's see how many of us will believe the promises of the next new agency to emerge! I can already imagine we will see the comments of those who were sceptical about them coming below!

Honestly, I think that guys deserved the chance to try.
For me it's better to support different approach instead of stay here saying how bad are agencies, and how fast race to the bottom is going.
Sorry for wemark but it was an interesting attempt IMHO

Yes but their attempt was fatally flawed as they never gave any reason for buyers to use their site. I did load some images and it would have been good to see an alternative on the market. But they fell well short of ever having a credible offer IMHO.

I received the 'Shutting down' email today as well. Sad to see the site go down.  I was hoping they would succeed.  I still think blockchain could hold potential in this industry but perhaps we'll have to wait for it to mature another 5 years.

What I'm a bit confused about is.......

From a programming standpoint - it is NOT that hard to create this type of site!!!!!! It of course requires a SMART
programmer - but if you have that - then its not that hard!

The only cost is programmers, which I am assuming they were - so they could have written the code themselves.
Sure - they may have been working for "free" for 6 months while they did the coding - but NO cost to them!

Running a host - to get "started" & test out the market - is dirt cheap! Like $100-$200! So... if they couldn't afford that...

So it really makes no sense...

I know very little about blockchain, but in what way do you see it providing a benefit to stock photography/video etc.

(Emphasis mine)

It does no newcomer any favor to just uncritically support whatever scheme they dream up. Lousy ideas do not deserve a chance. Things like Canva - which sadly hasn't panned out well for contributors - offered something unique to buyers and absolutely deserved a chance.

Suspending our judgment - which is based on experience - would only lead to more crashes and burns. Arguably, it would have done Wemark a favor if it hadn't gotten any contributor support. Better to find out fast if you don't have anything viable.

At this point 90% at least  of Microstock for agencies is marketing and thats not cheap.

Hopefully Leaf won't mind me jumping in here...one immediate and more or less mature application would be as a way of tracking online copyright infringement and image theft. With an open and accessible accounting blockchain registry of all licenses issued we would be easily able to track where our content is being used correctly or not. Enforcement is another issue though.

Speaking just for myself, applies the rule "you cannot teach an old dog new tricks" as e.g. blockchain. Fresh or new blood is not just kids with less experience or knowledge and just excitement or willing to risk.

Again, just speaking just for myself. Today I would turn down a work, any work that I would got payed on cryptocurrency or whatever it is called. But if this was the mainstream way of payment I would have to struggle and adopt.

Right, Right and Right. They blame the market crash and under funding. Neglecting to admit a smoke and mirrors project, using the Kodak name licensed, promising us something invisible and asking buyers to use coins instead of money. Whether crypto currency will make it in 5 years or 10 or 20, the plan was mostly and answer to a question that no one asked and a solution that didn't hold water.

Seems the link wasn't posted, so I thought maybe some would like reading the market speak and selling points that are nothing but vapor.

Lets stop believing in these new agencies that will change something or disrupt the industry or are the next big thing.

Leaf, you might move Wemark to agencies that no longer exist?  ;)

I don't doubt something new will come and disrupt the market....its inevitable in all industries...if I knew what and when I would be living on a Bond style villa on a caribbean island.
