What is the difference? What makes it editorial and what makes it commercial? Trying to figure out if my clips would be considered EDITORIAL or Commercial? Thanks in advance.

Here is my explanation: https://backyardsilver.com/rf-versus-rm-versus-editorial-versus-commercial/

As a general point, I really don't know why someone trying to make $100s on stock photos and videos won't spend $9.99 to actually learn about this stuff in a book!!

Yes, free works as well, but you need to know the questions to ask! This is just one of many questions that should be in the minds of someone starting a money making business. But I'll get off my soapbox!

How about agencies' knowledge bases? The most accurate source of info i guess.
This is a tip noone mentions. RTFM before submitting. The agreement too!
Anyway, this is the fourth post and no answer to the original question.

Houston we have a problem here :P

Didn't my link provide the answer (for free?). We can't tell him if his clips should be editorial or commercial without seeing them.

And if a fuller description is needed, look at around the 17 minute mark in this video: https://backyardsilver.com/master-class-in-stock-photography/

Free is always best....Editorial can be News related, recognizable people without model releases, pretty much any item that has brand, logo, or trademark on it, and even some famous buildings may have to be editorial. Commercial will have none of these items I have mention. Sometimes even the shape of an item like Iphone's may have to be editorial. Just upload your images or videos and if they reject it for editorial or commercial you will learn very fast what is the difference. Good luck...

That's not usually the tagline of stock photographers/illustrators/videographers here.   8)

Agencies do. Within 10-20 words.
By the way, it is Editorial use- only.

Steven, with all respect to your efforts, but "free" doesn't justify the read.
A mix on RF vs RM, personal preferences and a three minutes read for what?
for a simple:

"If the file does not have any recognizable faces, visible logos, audible voices, or audible music, a model/property release is usually not required for commercial use.
If the media does contain any recognizable faces, visible logos, audible voices, or audible music, a model/property release would be needed to use the file commercially.
If the file contains any recognizable faces, visible logos, audible voices, or audible music, and a model/property release is not available, the content is Editorial Only.
