Hi, i'm happy with my first stats (I started in May 2017)... It's encouraging to see people buying my photos that were sleeping in my hard drive!

Since may
Rf, 300 pics, 2 dl
DT, 300 pics, 1 dl
SS, 150 pics, 8 dl
AS, 150 pics, 14 dl
IS, 300 pics, it said 3 dl but it's not clear...

they want rf to have only amateur? because this is the way industry is going and is reflected by the quality of new submission.

Seems rather low for SS and IS, I had about three times that last year in the first two months with between 30 and 50 images then.

You do not have to be afraid to be robbed if your portifolio is so beautiful! I feel the frustration of a person who does not sell much ... and yes, I'm an amateur photographer, not a professional ... that's why I keep smiling even if I only sell one photo per month, unlike you!

be cool

A miserable chance for each and everyone, and a great deal for very few; This is the internet-based economy. Why complain: let everyone, and you also, play this game and live your life in peace.

who doesn't add anything to the industry but only manage to "steal" some sales for other contributor?

The only thing that 99% of stock producers 'add to the industry' is new files. Don't try and make it sound like you're bringing anything else. Sure, it could be said that just bringing new files isn't enough, they need to be unique, fresh etc.. but none of us have seen his work, so we have no idea.

But if this dude is bringing files that people are actually buying, then that's good for him, the agencies and the buyers. Which is pretty much the entirety of the industry. It may not be good for you, but stock wasn't invented just to benefit you. Unless you were the very first person to ever sell a stock image, then everybody else manages to 'steal some sales' from other contributors.

It's just business, healthy competition, industry, the way the world works... there's room for more than one taxi in a city, more than one company that sells bread, more than one type of beer in the local bar. Nobody is reinventing the wheel here... we've all seen an opportunity to make some money and we've taken it. He may be stealing sales from the people who came before him, but you're stealing sales from the people that came before you. Get over it.

Stop moaning and get back to 'adding to the industry'. Whatever that means.

300 images 12 download....it already say to me they are not anything that adds...but just subtract some sales to those with already established portfolio. but it's my idea. spending hour uploading 300 images per site to earn 20 bucks is smart?
my critic was not to the op...my critic was direct to the industry that after 11 years is still in the immature phase.
they want just amateur uploading mediocre at best work?
that's where they are aiming at.

Then why say "people like you" twice once associated with the term garbage  for someone's work (which you have never seen)?

Remember when you had to get 7 out of 10 to be approved to become a contributor years ago?
Now it is like 1 out of 10 or something? That tells you the direction "they" are going in...

Yes, 7 out of 10 was required. Direction? More like blindly going to wherever they go... :-[

If it doesn't add anything to the industry, why would you be afraid of losing sales to less than brilliant portfolios? Assuming the amount of content is increasing anyway, I'd rather see more inferior portfolios than superior portfolios. Otherwise it's tougher competition.

But we haven't seen this guy's portfolio, so why jump to conclusions?

There seem to be a few self declared "high rollers" here who seem very concerned about the competition offered by  their inferiors and the performance of microstock sites even if it is a small part of their income.

I can't see how if the guy is in China and HK taking editorials (I've seen his portfolio) it's going to have a direct impact on my sales when I've never been or plan to visit those places in the near future.

Even if I did shoot those places, there's so many different ways to appeal to buyers...we should all be trying to help each other and I think it took courage for him to post his earnings. I remember when I first started I was super happy to have a few dozen downloads and he's just excited. That enthusiasm of just starting out is important to drive motivation to improve (until the logical inevitable conclusion, which is probably to find another way to make money).

i'm not concerned about competition..the problem is that thousand of poor files add to the mass of million poor files so when buyer search for terms they find everything but the terms searched...as you can see doing some easy research...and so buyer look only for popular photos killing any hopes to sell new files.

but i suspect most of people here don't live about stock but are only amateur.

we shpuld help the industry grow and improve the finance of people who create content investing money, not trying to selling any snapshot left in the hard disk and earn money to buy a pizza. i understand that after some month you decided to make a guide to try to sell it cause u understand that living of micro is a bit " hard", so this kind of contributor are good for your business...but i care of professional photography and the fact that after 11 years ss still accept any photographer who apply without any semi pro or professional history make me laugh.

Agreed, although I believe that your anger is probably directed at the wrong place - it's the agencies who have made it way too easy for sub-standard content to be approved, thus flooding the market and making it more difficult for buyers to differentiate between the coal and diamonds. As for this guy, I think he's got some real potential, but I won't share his portfolio and he's free to do so if he wants.

Maybe I'm idealistic but I think it's important to help people. When I started I didn't get as much help as I wanted and just "wasted" so much time learning on my own. Don't give them all the answers but also don't discourage them completely imo.

True, in fact he bought a copy - I'm running a business after all. I do try to genuinely help people and offer to critique 5 of their images for free if they purchase a copy. I'll also follow up with everyone of the people who bought to book to see how they're getting on. Perhaps I have more of a vested interest than you but it's also who I am...I do like helping people because that's the life philosophy I live by. :)

True, it's the "gig economy" for you, brought about by innovation in technology...and it's only going to get worse. We're witnessing some professions completely die off or have to adapt drastically (netflix, uber, airbnb, tinder, deliveroo, etc etc). Probably going to see an app to find surrogate mothers soon.

Peace out  8)
