I am looking to set up a home entertainment system and wanting suggestions on what you have found works well.

I don't have any of the pieces yet, so I am pretty flexible.  Some of my thoughts / decisions are between lcd vs a projector, blueray player vs a media computer vs ps3.  The receiver and speakers I suppose are more straight forward - I will just have to find something that fits my budget and sounds ok.

I have heard some favorable opinions on the mac mini but since it doesn't have HDMI plugs or a blueray player it seems less of a candidate and surprising they didn't ad those if it is marketed towards being a media pc.  PS3 is nice that it has wifi, can stream music from a pc, has blueray plus is a gaming consol, having just a PC is more complicated than a simple Blueray player but could have it's advantages.

lcd or projector?  It sure seems tempting to be able to project a nice large image, but for everday use perhaps a lcd is simpler.  the projector takes up much less space though and the screen could be rolled up out of sight.

anyhow, what have you done and what do you like / dislike about it?

Lots of beer and a hoola-hoop.

I recently upgraded my home entertainment system and I am very happy with my purchases:

Panasonic 50" Plasma TV 50PZ850
Panasonic Blu-ray player DMP-BD35K
Onkyo AV Receiver TX-SR606
JBL CS6100BG speakers

The sound quality of the Blu-ray/Receiver/speakers is just amazing. Watching Dave Matthews Live at Radio City Hall has to be seen/heard to be believed. It's like you are there.

Bought everything from Amazon except the TV which I got from Abe's of Maine. Had it all shipped to Singapore and it works perfectly. Saved a fortune on what it would've cost here. Saved 60% on the TV alone.

Also use an Xbox 360 and Apple TV to complete the experience!

thanks for the suggestions, I'll check those ones out.

I think maybe it would be better to argue one thing at a time so I created two threads instead.  One for the LCD vs Projector and one for which Blue-ray player to choose.
