The new iPhone(s) is coming out today.  I have never been a macaholic but I am pretty keen on my iphone.  Looking forward to hearing what's being released today and discussing the new features / uses.

Thanks didn't know it was out today. However I'm happy with my 4 so it'll have to be pretty special to make me want to upgrade. (disclaimer: I said that last time)

Wall Street Journal (today) -

The expected introduction Tuesday of Apples newest iPhone smartphone is sure to bring long lines at the companys stores and breathless technological analysis of its new innovations. One thing it wont bring is the fastest possible downloads.

According to people familiar with the companys plans, the hotly anticipated device wont operate on long-term evolution or WiMAX fourth-generation networks. Those wireless networks promise speedier downloading to mobile devices of episodes of television programs, as well as cute baby photos.

The people said the device will work on 3G networks, which are broadly in use today and are the standard for the current iPhone 4. AT&T says its HSPA+ network has 4G-like speeds.

Verizon Communications has been rolling out its LTE 4G network across the U.S. promising lightning fast download speeds on devices such as the Motorola Droid Bionic and HTC Thunderbolt. AT&T last month began offering 4G LTE in the first five markets.

Sprint Nextel is expected to join AT&T and Verizon Wireless in offering the device later this month, though T-Mobile has said it isnt signed on yet with Apple. The iPhone drew 4.9 million activations in the second quarter between AT&T and Verizon Wireless, which is co-owned by Verizon Communications and Vodafone Group PLC.

It remains to be seen what bells and whistles the newest iPhone brings, but its sure to be another big hit for Apple. Company representatives couldnt be reached for comment.

1080p HD Video at 30 frames with gyro stabilization.

8MP improved camera.   I am guessing it's a good enough device for shooting stock video and photos in bright light.

The iPhone 5 will probably be around the corner early next year same as what happened with the 3G and 3Gs.

Good product same old design, playing it safe and boring.  I miss the Stevenote!

a little disappointing I suppose.  I was hoping for a new form factor.  The new camera and other software upgrades sound very nice though.

I have had the iPhone3Gs since June 2009 so I am more than ready for an upgrade. Overall I think the public will be disappointed, but if their camera claims pan out to be true I will be more than happy. iPhone already replaced a point and shoot camera for family snaps for me. I used to have Leica D-Lux4 and sold it because I realized that I either took a DSLR or just the iPhone.

I will try to upload one photo from the 4S to istock just to see if they will let it through. I am thinking bright sunlight landscape and resize to 2-3Mpix to get rid of noise.

Did anyone ever upload a photo from an iPhone and got it accepted by any stock agency?

EDIT: I am very surprised that phone running iOS5 with A5 chip is called 4S:)

I don't think any of the stock video sites will accept clips from this.  They don't accept clips from most high end compact cameras and I doubt this will be in that class.

Resolution and frame rate have little to do with image quality, which is impossible from a tiny lens imo.

I don't know about this specific model - I don't even use a mobile! - but all the pictures I've seen from mobile phones - smart or not - are fantastic on those small, over saturated displays but look ugly when seen on a proper pc screen.
