Hi MSG Folks,

I am in the market for a very good monitor (27" to 30" range) to replace my existing Samsung. I am looking for very clear resolution and price really isn't an issue thus open minded to high end as well. Any recommendations? I really want to be save my aging eyes as well thus need the larger screen size.

If LC are in still in the market, check out what they currently offer.
I'm still using one which is now attached to its third computer. It's small, as it has to fit into a tiny space, but other than that, I love it.
Funnily enough, when I went to get my previous computer built, the proprietor said, "Oh surely you want a new monitor" (to be fair, she hadn't tried to upsell me on the computer spec) and I said, "No the one I have is fine" - and when she looked it up she said, "I've never seen a monitor so old (3-4 years at that time) which still gets such fantastic write-ups". I pointed out that it cost me over £800 at the time, I should think so!

Google top rated monitors for 2013.

Here's a couple of results. The higher resolution ones are better.

Check more than one site and see if there are the same reviews on the same ones and that will give you a pretty good indication which ones are on top. Research customer comments as well. That's how I bought mine three years ago.

I have pretty sensitive eyes and I've had great luck with NEC monitors. Look into an IPS panel (may have to google the difference vs. TN panel). My eyes don't like LED backlighting (brightness has to be reduced to work on photos, which causes a flicker that gives me headaches) so I have monitors with alternate style backlight. I did end up with an NEC with LED backlighting and it was by far the best LED backlight I'd had...

I have been using a Viewsonic VP2365wb with IPS panel for the last two year. I'm very happy with it. Color accuracy is very good. Cost about $300.-

I recommend the DELL Ultrasharp. I a 22" have one and I think it's very good, specially given its price range. In my opinion, you should only consider IPS matrix monitors if you plan to use it for image editing.

I have Dell UltraSharp U3011, 30", with native resolution of 2560x1600 pixels in 16:10 aspect ratio. I bought it about a year ago and it took me some time to get use to such high resolution and big desktop space, because before I was used to work on small 15" notebook display. But after I got used to it (which was pretty fast) I am highly satisfied with it since than! I wouldn’t go under 30" of display dimension any more. Such a high display dimension is excelent for browsing/previewing photos at fullscreen – it feels like looking at big printed size of photo, what is absolutely great! It is also great for editing of photos, graphics, textures, 3d models, etc. because it offer a lot of space for various items, tools and windows that can be active and placed on workspace.

I just bought one of the Korean made monitors that claim to use the same panel as the Apple Cinema Display. $399 at Microcenter, brand name Auria.

27" - 2560x1440

So far it's been great, even better screen than the high-end Dell it replaced.

I'm a big fan of the Dell Ultrasharp line as well. Very good price point to image quality ratio for me.
