So I have quite a number of editorial images on SS. I also have my earlier pictures on Flickr because this is where I started before this whole Microstock business engulfed me. The pictures on Flickr can not be used without my permission.
I am regularily contacted by various people from "NowPublic" to use my pictures in their online newsstories. Has anybody else been contacted by them? Any ideas about them?
Everytime I am referring them to my SS portfolio I never hear from them again - untill they want to use another one from me. Are they just trying to get something for nothing from unsuspecting Flickr users? Should I accept if it is credited to me for exposure - but you can not sell on Flickr? Any feedback would be appreciated.

with shutterstock they need to buy a monthly subscription and a high price. if they only want one image it won't be worth their $$. Perhaps you should send them to another site such as dreamstime or fotolia.

I'm not on Flickr (what's the point?) but this sounds suspiciously like a scam to me.
The fact that they don't contact you a second time, after your reply, seems to be revealing.
Have you checked where they would be using them? Do they have a web site?
And I'd be wary of letting them use your images with nothing but a credit to you.

YOu shouldn't direct them to Shutterstock as unless they have a subscription, it is an expensive option for them. Get your shots on Featurepics and then they can buy a one off from there. Plus you get 70%.
Featurepics accept most things so you shoud be able to get them up quickly.

If they are asking about usage of an image and then being sent to SS, they might think that is their only option, thus they don't come back a second time. I don't think it is a scam. If it was, why would they contact in the first place?

Why not sell the image directly to them and draw up a simple agreement?
Or submit the image to another stock site that sells editorial images and direct them there.

That is why I suggested Featurepics. they do Editorial (dont they??both RM and RF) and as they accept most photos, he should be able to get most of his Flickr portfolio up. He can then control the price and gets 70% commission. This is why featurepics is the best site to refer people to when they know the photo they want.

In 2005 NowPublic.com (http://NowPublic.com) became a recognized leader in the emerging field of citizen journalism. Featurepics is a good idea and I have a lot of pictures there Its just not taking off so I am kind of forgetting about it. They provide you with a link to accept the usage etc. so they are doing it alot. I just do not understand the whole Web 2.0 thing where one company makes mony on user supplied content without the supplier getting anything.
I will suggest FP then, we will see if they Buy.
