Does anyone know if it's possible to receive money from Moneybookers collected in a bank in which you don't have an account? I was thinking of collecting money on my trip this way.

Hi Adelaide,
I'm never at home. I have my PayPal account linked to my bank account so I can transfer the money any time I like. I then just use my ATM card wherever I am and I have cash in the hand.
Can't you link Moneybookers to your bank account? (I don't know as I don't use them)

Yeh...that's what I do with PayPal, too. When I'm on the road, I find an internet connection and just transfer my earnings into my bank account. Then I use my debit card to access the funds. PayPal also offers a debit card that links directly to your PayPal account. Hopefully Moneybookers offers the same thing.

As I'm in Brazil, I can't have Paypal or Moneybookers send me money to my local account (I think it's possible with MB, but a friend told me the bank surcharges - government taxes probably - are very high) nor to my credit card.

Transfers from the agencies to MB apparently goes within hours. From MB to my bank here in Thailand takes 2-3 days at the most.
Since the transfer can be initiated from any internet-connected computer in the world, the money is available to me for use with a card wherever I am. Very nice system :)

Yes its within minutes from stocksites to moneybookers, but some of the sites take upto 2 weeks to process your cash-out/earnings request.

Yes, it's a headache sometimes. I try to time all payments so that they arrive around the same time as SS between the third and fifth of each month, and my own monthly payments around the same time, but sometimes, one or two has to wait for another month before I can get to the money.

I got a reply from MB today, I indeed can not withdraw money if not to a personal bank account. There must be some logic behind it, although I don't understand what this could be, if money would still be delivered to me personally.
Anyone in UK: is it possible for a non-resident to open a bank account? I emalied Barclays, but they say they can't give this information by email. :/

The account could be in any country. As long as there's a card connected to it, you can get the money out wherever you are.
The reason why it has to be a personal bank account, is that they wire transfer to that account, like a traditional bank transaction. For security reasons, they only accept transfers to approved, pre-defined accounts. The approval routine is a bit awkward, but it's very basic, and will work with any bank account, unlike PayPal, who requires a credit card and a higher level of acceptance from the receiving bank.

it is incredibly difficult to open a bank account in UK.....too much money laundering in that country, so they make difficult to open a bank account. Really difficult, believe me....it took me ages to open one even with all the proper documents. :o

The reason why I asked about UK is that I will be in London on my way to the Baltic countries. I was at HSBC today and they say it's possible (I'm not sure if in any country, though the lady assured me it's possible), I need to get a sort of recommendation letter from my local account manager to present there. They say it can even be done from here (she remembers having done it once), but in this case is far more complicate. Still, they don't know exactly what is required apart from a photo ID and something to very my postal address.
A friend who works in HSBC UK (but not in banking services) is going to try to find some info for me.
