Title: Rechargeable batteries.......
Post by: HughStoneIan on January 14, 2009, 16:32
What are your favorite rechargeable batteries (especially AA-size) for your photo equipment, cameras, lights, etc?  I finally got an education in rechargeables, and realized that there's so much more to them than just buying any old set of chinese aa's and popping them in the cheap Walmart chargers I bought early last year.  What a waste of money those were!
Anyway, just wondering what everyone's experiences are with rechargeables, the most reliable ones you've found, etc.  I'm soon buying a bunch of eneloops and already bought 2 Maha chargers, which do a much better job than the junky cheap ones.

I like energizer rechargeables 2500mah and the 15 minute charger, for when I need batteries quickly.  I find if you don't use them within a few days you will have to recharge them though. I also like Walmarts Pure Energy rechargeable alcalines.  They are cheap, they work very well for me in my sb-800 flash, and I can store them charged for quite a long time without them losing power. (I'm not sure how long though).  I am sure normal AA batteries in the sb-800 would last longer, but since I do most of the photography work at home and on short trips, I don't mind filling up some ziploc bags with Pure Energy.

Make sure you figure out some way to keep your batteries organized though.  When I open a pack and kill them, I put them in a ziploc bag labelled dead.  I only have 4 batteries in a ziploc at a time and always the same ones together.  This way I don't mix up ones I use more often with the ones I just bought or opened.

This sounds a lot like what I do... :-[

So I turned back to «regular» alkaline Duracell.

So I'll follow this topic, I might learn something!

I have a GP Powerbank charger & batteries, and also a set of Duracell rechargeable batteries (all 2100mAh), and never had an issue with them.  They last many shots and videos in my Canon A620.

And now seriously, green Duracell 2100/2600 mAh with Duracell charger. I like the charger because it can charge independently each battery with each battery status.

I have been using Maha stuff since 2002. Never a problem.

Depends on what you want to do. some high capacity NiMH for use in a flash strobe are great, and saves money over alkaline batteries (as someone has already written) you can't beat lithium AA batteries if you are going somewhere really cold. They are expensive and can't be recharged but they hold a higher capacity and work better in cold conditions where rechargeables will just sit there and you they have no charge. I still stick with alkaline (energizer or drucells) for my film cameras, tho the capacity is lower you can just put them in and forget for a year or 20+ rolls of film
