Title: Ruins of Detroit (off topic)

Anyone watch that show Life after Humans?  

I think these have been featured elsewhere (i.e Time) so you may have seen already -  just sharing some photos from decaying Detroit.

I didn't see the show but I have seen those photos and I find them fascinating.  I grew up north of the city and went to college downtown.  I've been in the Farwell building shown in photo #4.  The Sculpture department at my grad school did an installation art project in the building and we had free reign of the building to do installations in any and all of the rooms.  I remember it looking a lot worse than it is in that photo - darker and dirtier with a lot of debris from homeless squatters that had been living there.

Thanks for posting Pixart.   I was sent a link to some images from Detroit previously, but I hadn't seen these.  Extraordinary really.  The dystopian environment that films and games try to portray seems to be right there in reality.

What amazes me is the stuff that's left there. Almost like people just walked away or vanished. Must be a weird atmosphere. Thanks for the link.

Yes, that's what struck me too.  You'd think that at least another Dentist would have nabbed the chair and equipment that was left behind, and that a school might have been given the pianos. 

I've just heard from an artist I know in the US who has been actively researching different parts of the States for a couple of years, with a view to moving.  He says that the median house price in Detroit is around £48,000 and that the low cost is persuading entrepreneurs and artists to move in and help create a new city, so... out of the ashes hopefully a colourful and creative 'phoenix' will arise.

I haven't been to Detroit in a dozen years, but my biggest memory is of burned buildings everywhere, and no efforts made to clean them up.  Detroit:  Pyros' Playground.

I took some pictures of Michigan Central Station a few years ago. Very cool building, there are plans to restore it.
