Then, the story came out about the geological make up of Yellowstone (i.e. big volcano). Everyone ran with that and it has festered into doom and gloom ever since, when in fact it's same ol same ol. So you are correct. I did see a documentary a while ago that said an eruption was "overdue" and the results could be pretty serious.

And it should be the case especially for us, photographers, since it is one of the most scenic parks in the US. But it seems that "some" only discovered these facts recently, from tabloids or conspiracy sites, instead of high school classes or some book/article based on science.Obviously, the volcano has nothing to do with Trump, but the gullibility of "some" people, unable to tell the difference between a hoax and reality, has a lot to do with the way he got elected.
Selling death and destruction is standard behaviour for US and other Western governments of all political colours - the Liberals throw in hand-wringing while signing off the missiles, warplanes and guns, which is a bit sickening (OMG! It's not a hoax I saw it on PBS and read about this in National Geographic. The ones saying it could blow up and any day mass death and destruction are the problem. I didn't write these I just put up a story here, and now you are attacking me personally? Why don't you go after the people here who make up rumors and hoaxes about the search or capping?

Yellowstone is having an earthquake swarm right now which is well within normal range.
